This must change. The realigning of turrets back to the origin is ridiculous and completely throws off gunners.
Gunners who don't understand the mechanic think the pilot is throwing them off by 'not flying steadily' when we're simply trying our best to keep ourselves ready to get away from any AV as soon as our passengers deploy, and lowering/raising the nose simply screws their aim over, and it is rarely the pilot's fault.
Gunners who understand the mechanic sigh with frustration when their aim is jerked from their grasp even when they have a masterful ability to compensate for dropship movement AND account for the fact that they may hit the ship itself.
Lose-lose situation.
An easy fix would be to make projectiles 'spawn', or however the projectile is brought into the game when a gunner hits the fire button, 1 meter away from the dropship. Sure, it will look dodgy, but that can be graphically disguised, and even if it can't, it's the best fix we have short of reworking turret positions on dropships and the dropship frames themselves.
Since dropships normally fire from a few dozen meters away at least, we will never notice that enemies within 1m aren't being hit at all. With this we can remove the realigning without fear of gunners contributing to the death of their own craft.

Well, if this fix was implemented and we could actually shoot tanks properly, they'd be afraid of us.

It's been a bugbear of mine for a while that the turrets get jerked up if they're too far forward. If something could be done to help dropships this would be one bonus, albeit a small one. |

Yeah tanks is an extreme example. At the very least, a good gunner should be able to take out a forge gunner without having his aim knocked around. Imagine if forge gunners had their aim reset to staring at the ground every time a middle from a dropship hit them. This is how a gunner feels when a dropship pilot maneuvers the craft too quickly.
I'm assuming since no body has argued against the way I suggested turrets should be fixed that it is a good solution?

I actually don't understand the problem being described in the OP.

When you're gunning from a turret on a dropship, you have the ability to swivel the turret on its hardpoint in a wide cone.
You would think that whereever you want to aim, your turret aims at. However, this is not the case. Occasionally, possibly triggered by certain movement of a dropship, the turret automatically resets to facing directly forward (turret is 90 degrees to the horizontal axis of the dropship). This is really restricting for gunners when dropship pilots already have trouble maintaining a steady platform when under fire. This little problem makes it even harder to harass and kill those pesky AV users.
Someone explain it better than me please... I think I basically reiterated the OP. :P I dunno, it makes sense to me because I've had it happen. Try gunning from a dropship and you'll see what I mean eventually.

Well okay it might be a little ridiculous for flying buses to have the offensive capabilities to destroy HAVs, but if we had a squad with 2 swarmers, 2 forge gunners and 1 av nader logi with hives...

Well okay it might be a little ridiculous for flying buses to have the offensive capabilities to destroy HAVs, but if we had a squad with 2 swarmers, 2 forge gunners and 1 av nader logi with hives... I once read a Dev Blog where CCP gave their idea on how certain vehicles should work. Their little story ended with a Force Recon dropship crippling a Marauder to the point where it could no longer function properly and lost most of its HP, before being taken out in an enemy chokepoint. So yes, I think it's safe to say that CCP intended Dropships to be capable of taking out HAVs.
The Force Recon dropship from that story still lives to this day, I hear

Imagine sniping at someone who is literally two pixels on the screen only the be forced out of the zoom as soon as you pulled the trigger. when you zoom back in you have to go through all that trouble lining up the shot again, rinse and repeat. |
