I started playing DUST 514 with my old DS3 as I was used to from other console FPS games. I did ok. I then realised that KBM controls were possible too and thought this was a viable alternative to my broken DS3.
I never played a FPS with KBM before so it was kinda weird for me, and i wasn't used to it at all. I kinda sucked at first. Then I threw the nunchuk-like controller from the Move set into the mix to control my char and discovered a good hybrid between KBM for ADS and sniping and "kind of DS3" game pad to run and strafe. I reload with "R" on the keyboard by the way :)
I came to the conclusion that both DS3 and KMB have their pros and cons.Let's be honest here: Aim assist for DS3 just compensates for the obvious advantages when aiming with a decent mouse. Let alone sniping and forge gunnig, which are way more smooth and accurate with KBM. IMHO DS3 users need as many buffs and assists as possible, to be on par with KBM users. So I dont think any KBM user should QQ about Aim assist and such for pad users.
Actually I'm afraid of Nov. 29th, when my PS4 arrives together with BF4. I will have to get used to gamepad-FPS gaming and will miss the benefits of my Dust KBM/move gamepad hybrid a lot. I tried playing Dust with my broken DS3 again today and sucked badly
BTW, I think everybody should choose wether they want to play any FPS with gamepad or KBM, no matter if console or PC. And plz stop saying "this is a console game, so gamepad only" This is a narrowminded, old men's way to argue, gentlemen.

I'm awful with the DS3 so I have been using Kb/M since it was added to Dust.
The mouse is very good at long range combat such as sniping, lasers, SRs etc.
However it is very difficult for me to compete it close quarters with controller users (so much so that I don't really even try anymore). Given that I used to do pretty well in CQC I'm presuming this is due to aim assist although perhaps I'm just terrible. |

Dont forget you can sprint and strafe at the same time with a keyboard Its extremely noticeable when a scout does it since its max speed weaving without the tell tale slowdown due to a controllers dead zones
Im not drunk, the planet just happens to be especially wobbly today.

Having an aim assist for controller users as a compensation vs KBM is one thing. But at the moment it just way too strong.
I would add as well that the current mouse calibration is far from being perfect. No users of KBM will say otherwise.
Finally, the aim assist isnt a problem of KBM vs DS3 at the moment. it's an issue of taking out for all users the impact of aiming skills and dodging maneuveurs. Risk is making fights a matter of firing first and not being good in a firefight. Which is obvious with the improved HD.
This Char i only use on the forum.

I find it interesting that aim assist for many weapons bears no resemblance to their optimal range...

Well said.
Mouse controls have only gotten worse since Chromosome. Every change and "fix" they've released has only made it worse. I'm baffled as to how they managed to do that. The aim-assist feature only further killed gun game. I really wish they would revise the aim assist back to what it was, but that's unlikely to happen, just like my zeal for this game is unlikely to come back.

Mouse aiming in Chromosome was easy and intuitive. I didn't have to struggle to get my cross hair on target, it happened naturally.
But we all had aiming friction back then.
I'd like to see aim friction make a comeback for mouse for close quarters if aim assist isn't toned down for the DS3. |

Wow I think you're my favorite CPM I don't think I've seen any CPM mention kb/m especially the horrible shape its in.. Is CCP aware and or doing anything about it ?
I have a 10page thread that no devs have responded to, would love to get your input on it.. I would link it but I'm on my mobile |

I've been absent from Dust for a few months but have been logging in over the last few days. I gotta say mouse controls are abysmal and hit detection versus lights is beyond bad. Guess I'll be shelving Dust once more and sticking with the PS4 for some time to come. |
