I converted from logi to scout and love it, you just got tired of running scout all the time. I got tired running logi and like the speed, avoiding scanners and having huge passive scans.
I am confident you will soon fall back to your scout, when you start getting shot in the back because your scan range and precission is bad and you will not be able to hide behind a doorway as your scan profile is high, you will sincerely miss your scout.
I also have a heavy with forge when I need to blow up some stuff, I love Dust and the variety. Assaults are boring
There is nothing better than being in your skinny scout, watching the red dot move closer, knowing he is unaware of your presence. I need the surprise moment to win as he is a tanked assault, oh, the adrenaline and satisfaction when you get the kill in your skinny scout. How boring it is in my logi with stacked damage mods. |

I like your feedback and I salute you for going scout! But I need to say that there is a BIG difference in a scout using a medium suit v.s. a medium suit player learning how to scout in a scout suit. Shot in the back: Eyes everywhere at all times, rotate, as a scout you are thin and this habit helps you stay alive in your medium frame suit. Additionally, your greater number of high slots on a medium frame and more CPU/PG means adding a complex precision enhancer (which you've probably already skilled up as a scout) is easy-peasy. Problem solved. -Note you've also likely got range L5, so your 15 meter of passive range is extendable to almost 30 with 1 measly complex range enhancer (low slot). Hiding behind doorway: Scouts never stay stationary, being fragile means being in motion. As a scout in a medium frame, if you chose forgo your training and adopt this playstyle, you are only a profile dampener away from making it work. With your already highly skilled profile dampening skills, slapping a complex profile dampener or two onto a medium suit with plenty of low slots and CPU/PG is easy-peasy. Problem solved. So - keep up the good scout work, but when a scout, someone who has been forged in the fires of hard-mode, says they are going medium frame: be afraid.
Thank you for the good advice.
I think having played both a medium frame scout actually makes you better as you know the others weaknesses. It is not as easy as you say regarding the medium frames and adding complex enhancers, range and dampeners. Most medium frames including me are build to survive at the frontline, ie with shield, armor and damage mods, only few are putting on the electronics modules that I know of. Tank and damage mods are needed to survive encounters vs other assault players. If I start adding other modules I will likely have less tank and less damage than my opponent. And also running in a prot logi at the price of 245k, I better make sure I have enough tank to survive a few hits, a MD shot etc or I would run out of isk quickly. This comes at a price, I need to stay close to my team mates as I am a fairly easy prey for a scout if I am alone.
Not like the scout that can get kills even having much less eHP.
I am going totally paranoid as a logi sometimes, running out of stamina and knowing red dots are close by. They will most likely pick me up on their tachnet when they get close enough, has gotten me killed plenty of times, not being able to hide long enough for my shields and armor to regenerate. As a scout on the other hand, I have enjoyed standing behind a doorway, pillar, or other debris and watched the unaware red dot move right past me. Take two step out and kill the red dot. The scout can run away, keep an eye on the tach net and see when the followers loose their track of my location, then move back and shoot them in the back.
Not to mention the heavy frame, I cannot even see a medium frame move up right behind me with the poor scan precission. How I enjoy running scout and no longer get shot in the back by other scouts. You have no idea how frightening and scary scouts can be to medium frames. I remember running in squads where everyone freaked about a minja with nova knives was running around and killing us when we were alone. The scout can be very scary, just knowing there is one in the area can be enough to make you go crazy |

You say that it's not easy to fit the electronic mods, and for most medium frames it is not - but for a scout in medium suit it is pretty easy. With good dampening/range/precision scout skills, putting one or two of these mods on a medium suit and making them work with the reduction in tank is very feasible. I was mostly coming from the perspective of a seasoned scout moving on to a medium frame, and how it will likely be more deadly on the field than their scout fits, given their SP and practice/training as a scout.
I feel your pain on running medium suits. I have a few medium frame fits on other alt's (who don't have scout skills such as the electronics and biotics, etc....). You are a big, easy to see, slow target and you need to stay in a group with a good weapon to wreck shop reliably. If I go off alone I need to be pretty good and have some nice damage weapons; but even on these accounts I do fine without my scout SP/skills since the constant stomping I get in my scout suit has made me decent enough to stay out of trouble even when off alone in a medium suit.
However, when I throw on a standard medium frame assault suit on this character - it's night and day. I can go stealth/aware, armor/shield tank, DPS, speed demon, but usually a combination of two of the previous (which most scouts below proto just can't do).... and I do a thousand times better then when I run scout. The practice/training as a scout over the months, plus the SP in my scout skills - it's just magic; and that's why it's hard to stay scout after a while (for some).
Interesting, I never though of converting a medium frame to function as a scout. I wonder if I can do this and keep the expense below 30 isk, get a medium frame with below 36db profile, get 30meters scan radius, get close to 40db scan precision, speed and stamina. I would really not like to miss any of these again now that I have had a taste of running scout. I still only have level 3 scout, but have banked 1.6mill sp and plan to go proto scout. Was initially planning for the proto heavy gallente, but now I will definitely go for the scout.
My most used scout only costs 23k isk, have 220 shields, 280 armor, exile AR, toxin smg, advanced quantum scanner, 2 complex shield extenders, armor plate and reactive plate. I sometimes switch the armor plate for a scanning range module if I do not have the advanced scanner equipped. I love this build.
I think the main reason I have fallen in love with the scout, is that I can still switch to my logi for the matches where I cannot find a descent squad or just have the lady luck against me, still adjusting to running full time as scout. |
