Since I was unbanned, it's time for the flood of ideas I had in those 3 months!
And here is the first one: Tie the active scanner precision to the suit's scan precision, and then put a 10% bonus on it. (As an example, CCP can take any % they like, I just think 10% is a nice number :P)
So let's say your suit scan precision is 50? Your active scanner gives you a scan precision of 45.
What this achieves: -Stops scouts from being detected by brick suits. If you want to detect a scout, use some scan precision stuff, no 348953284932 shield and damage mods for you.
-Makes scouts important, since they have the lowest scan precision (the lower the better).
-Stops scanner spam, since you now actually have to sacrifice a part of your suit to detect people properly, which not everyone is willing to do.
-Balances the scanning mechanics, where it was way too much in favor of the scanner. You have to put on two profile damps which means your suit is less powerful in combat, to stay out of a brick suit user's scanner who will just destroy you regardless.

And +1 for your proposal. I like the idea of equipment that leverages suit stats and native bonuses. Seems like this idea applied to different modules could go a long way with logis also. m'row =^.^=

Just pulling numbers out of my ass but with your example of 50 base precision: Standard -10% Advanced -20% Prototype -30% Scouts will be better at using scanners since their precision is the lowest, but any suit with max precision 5 and a proto scanner would still be able to pick up an improperly dampened scout. While the numbers are a bit high, yeah that's what I meant in the first place. 10% is what I thought for the proto. Again, I pulled that number out of my ass myself.

This is basically like active mods for dropsuits. I'd like to see a longer cool down time as well, though.
As an aside but still related, the active scanner HUD results need a nerf as well. Instead of a constant chevron above the head of the merc, I think in needs to be a stationary blip that refreshes every second or so during the scan duration. heh, I had that idea for a different idea I had. There is more than one way to fix the active scanner, and I had a more complex idea that also fixes passive scanning as well.

I would like it so that to detect a proto scout with no dampening modules you need to use at least 1 proto precision enhancer on a medium logi suit (base scan precision 50db), as well as be running a proto scanner. If that happened, then I'd know that the person who lit me up had actually made a reasonable trade-off to find me and kill me.
Then I'd spawn back in with a dampened fit and absolutely ruin his ******* day.
Good idea, cat. I approve of this :)

I like these numbers. They are not too high, Cat. They really sound ok. 50dB suit + proto scanner = 35 scan precision. So you could still stay a brick suit and detect most targets except for people with two dampeners... Dunno, kinda eliminates what I was after.

It's a Proto Scanner and it won't pick a dampened Proto Scout. Sounds perfect to me. That's the problem. The scout needs dampeners to evade it.
The whole point of this is that the user has to sacrifice his suit too to be able to see dampened people.
I was thinking more about giving proto scanners more range, less scan time, targets show up for longer etc' instead of just lower dB.

Also, good thinking, Cat Merc! I very much like your suggestion. Actually, I can just spin in place and detect everything, including on rooftops. I don't think they have a cone.
