I have never routed for a game to succeed more than I have Dust 514. The lore of eve online, the complexity and originality of the shooter, and the "sandcastle" game play had me hooked from day 1. Unfortunately, it may be time to call it quits. This game is not going in the right direction, and I am afraid that we may never see what we want from this awesome game with so much potential. However, at the suggestion of @dust514, I will leave you with some ideas that would turn this game around, in my opinion, of course.
Game Modes: I was sure this game was headed down the wrong path when we continue to get new vehicles, new repair tools, and new aurum weapons while we continue to play the same two game modes. Two!?!?! That's all we get? Ambush and skirmish? (Domination is skirmish, lets be honest) Give us something more. It could be as simple as a basic CTF mode, or go into something more like Battlefield's Rush, MAG's sabotage, or Socom's Demollition. Those would be simple. Put an eve lore spin on it. More complex modes can be added later, but anything different would be great.
Sec Status: I dabbled in Eve. Enjoyed it but it may be a little over my head. But i learned about the security status of systems. Would love to see that implemented in Dust. Not only would it quiet the proto stomping haters, but it would inevitably add another game mode. A mode where i don't have to shell out 150K isk/ suit to compete and have fun. Here's how it can be done. One way would be to make a Meta Level Cap for the room. So only items, modules, etc of a certain meta level or lower could be used in that room. Yes, this will not help completely, as some skill bonuses will greatly contribute, but will this type of game ever really be fair? Another way you could accomplish this would be to make a Meta Level Cap per suit. So, like a tournament, each player would be allotted 20 points. Each meta level item takes up that many points. So here again, should I spend 8 points on two complex shield extenders, or 6 points on a gek? There could be different levels of these rooms, so "null sec" would have no limit, "low sec" would have a meta level 35 point limit, and "high sec" would only be 15 points. (Note: I have not looked into if these are fair values, I am just giving examples) The main problem with this plan is that you are segregating a, no offense, already pretty low player base, and will continue to run into the same players over and over again. But, maybe these changes would bring players back too.
I don't have all the answers as to why this game isn't making it where it needs to go. But these are some suggestions to problems I see. Telling you what's wrong without a solution myself doesn't get us anywhere. I really hope this game gets back on track, and I hope to be doing more with this in the next year and for years and years to come. But, for now, I will hang up my nanohives and go back into a cryo sleep, praying for the day that this game is a competitor with the terrible games that come out every November.
