While many of us are hungry for new content and changes to how FW and PC work, the sorry state of the New Player Experience cannot be overlooked. What they have right now in terms of tutorials and a ramp-up (Academy) into pub matches is just not cutting it. That being said, we cannot forget about the context of where the game is at right now. Sadly, we cannot extend their time in Academy as we need a certain amount of players in pub matches for matchmaking to work at all.
But, there are some simple things that can be done to give them a more rewarding experience and allow them to be relevant at a much faster rate. The idea is to help new players without having to rework the entire game.
-The first is one that many people have lobbied for over the past couple months and I can see no rebuttal against it other than a possible better idea. That is that new players should not have a weekly cap until they reach a certain SP level (say in the 5-7 range). This would actually encourage them to buy boosters as they wont be wasted once you hit your cap. So big PLUS for CCP in getting more revenue from new players.
-Second is that CCP should actively work with trainer corps such as Spyders and D Uni (and many others) to promote them to new players. None of us are happy when being squaded with newberries who have no clue what they are doing. Its frustrating and boring. This can be easily done by having this be part of the initial tutorial where it recommends the players join these corps to ease them into the game
-Third, I believe that Academy should not limit players to the SP/ISK requirement for gear that is found when they graduate. This should be the time when they get to try out different weapons/suits/vehicles to find what fits them. It would add diversity to the game as well as happier players.
-Fourth (and the one that probably requires the most work), would be the addition of a GÇÿtraining roomGÇÖ option for mercs. This would allow them to test out whatever weapons/suits they want to get comfortable with them before being thrown out to the wolves.
-Finally, I think that there should be one respec and one race change token given to new players upon graduation of the Academy. The respect can be used once they hit the end to their new player grind up until 10 million SP and the race change can be done at any time. Again, this allows them to test out new gear and equipment without penalty and the race change gets them more into the lore aspect of the game. In the end, it makes for a much happier experience for new players.
TL;DR -Remove SP cap for new players until X amount of total SP -Promote trainer corps as part of the initial tutorials -Academy should not follow the ISK/SP rules of regular matches to encourage trial -The addition of a training room to try out new gear -Give new players respec and change race tokens (one each)
