Suits not differentiated enough
As it is now, a logi and a scout all do the same exact amount of damage with a duovolle, a vizam, an imperial, and an allotek as assaults... a suit being assault would seem to indicate that these suits specialize in assaulting. On top of this, racial varients of weapons see no benefit for being paired with their racial suits, the Empress cries every time she sees an amarrian suit using dirty minmatar or gallente tech.
Add to this that assaults can self-resupply or spam their own uplinks, a well regulated squad could forgo the need for a logi with clever forethought by designating equipment loadouts. As it is now the logi is the swiss army knife of dust and assaults don't really need them anyway. The only suit thast really NEEDS a logi is a heavy.
Assaults
Nerf weapons by 25% (damage per round for hybrids, Rate of Fire for projectiles, and heat for lasers) give suits +5% or 10% per level to nerfed stat on racial weapon
- gallente assault - 5% per lvl to light hybrid weapon dmg
- amarr assault - 10% per level to light weapon heat build-up
- Caldari assault - 10% per lvl to light hybrid weapon range
- minmatar assault - 5% per lvl to light projectile weapon RoF
- amarr heavy - 10% per lvl to heavy weapon heat build-up
- minnie heavy - 5% per lvl to HMG dispersion
- caldari heavy - 5% per lvl to Forge gun dmg
- gallente heavy - ???
Grenades
Right now as it is, heavies have a Large grenade slot that is put to no use, I suggest changing this also. Large grenade slots should only fit AV grenades.
normal/flux grenades are classified as small AV grenades should be changed to large
Using these already established philosophies from eve, more suit types can be extrapolated;
AV suit (medium or heavy) - a suit with little cqc effectiveness that keeps vehicle user up at night. Bonus to racial AV Large grenade slot
Grenader (light suit) - grenade focused suit specializing in taking out heavies and cqc ops but useless outside of 30 meters. 1 small grenade slot 1 large grenade slot 1 equipment slot 1 sidearm
This is more in-line with eve design philosophy.. sure you can use other racial weapons on your suits, but you will not be at 100% effectiveness. The template is there, the design philosophy tried and true and already at play IN new eden. This stuff more or less writes itself if you are even a little bit familiar with eve online.
Now CCP can release blood/sansha/gurista/angel suits that have mash ups of bonuses and layouts.
Grenade/uplink/nanohive spam
Assualts/basics get no equipment slot Logis get no grenade slot Scouts get both (they need some love)
Comments: This will truly make logi's required and assualts deadly. Grenades will count for something again and uplinks will be more situationally placed. Right now assualts can be self sufficient (nanohives/uplinks) and Logi's can be front line assaults. Of course more bonuses would need to be reworked (like the default assault suit and logi bonuses). |

This is a great idea but it's too much for CCP to handle.
UNLESS dropsuit tiers were removed. If you change bonuses and stats, it affects mlt-std-adv-pro dropsuits differently. So CCP has to take into account ALL tiers when making changes, meaning there is 4x the workload when trying to balance new changes than if we simply had 1 tier, and all new dropsuits (like the ones you've suggested) are introduced at only one tier.
Ultimately, it's a choice between how people like to progress. Do you want to put SP into specialised suits, or SP into a suit that's simply better overall, leading to a system where basic/advanced suits become redundant the longer DUST goes on and the more prototype suits/ISK is acquired. Not to mention, it leads to cries over matchmaking because protostomping squads crush everything in sight, AS well as cries for respecs because new content might mean 3mill SP wasted because "he wanted this but it wasn't out yet so he was forced to do this to be competitive in PC".
Specialised, tiercided suits MEANS new content can get out faster, because balancing doesn't have to involve so many goddamn items and their tiers, AND their variants.

How it should have been since the beginning.
I tried to put a level into Amarr Commando once, but got a server notification saying "Why?"

Unfortunately the amount of suits and suit roles is very limited comparitively in this game, so I do not see a good answer to this for the immediate future.
The reason why CCP was able to do tiericide was the fact that there was 3+ ships per class, where as in dust there are a total of 3 basic and 5 specialized classes each with one suit type with varying qualities (std, adv, pro).
In Eve this was never the case as each ship within a class was basically it's own specialized version, and of course then you have Tech 2 stuff that expanded upon those roles and were altogether better than the tech 1 ships.
Here is the big issue:
CCP can claim now that there is 48 medium, 12 light and 9 heavy for a total of 69 different frames.
In reality there are 19 different frames with varying qualities (std, adv, pro)
The way I see it, CCP are just too far down this path now to completely revamp the suit structure. We are for better or worse stuck with protosuits. CCP has invested too much time and money in creating all of the aurum gear and suits (which is why we even have the tier system) to give it up.
