Instead of rage deleting the game, I decided to simply quit playing for awhile. Well BF4 came out and I picked up my copy at midnight to rush home and play. After a few days of playing BF4 then returning to DUST I noticed that my "bitterness" for DUST had melted away.

For those of you that have not played BF4, it's bad - plain and simple. The game was designed with the PS4 and XB1 in mind so textures look horrendous. Constant freezing and crashing and the worst netcode in an FPS I've ever seen also plagues BF4.

When I returned to DUST after playing BF4 and reading the BF4 forums, it finally hit me that I'm expecting FAR too much from DUST atm which was leading to my bitterness. Face it, the PS3 is ancient technology, the textures aren't going to look amazing, the game isn't going to be liquid smooth. When this idea finally sank in, I realized that DUST really isn't all that bad. I'm still currently trying to recover from the nausea and headache that playing DUST has caused me because in comparison to BF4, it's FAST and I mean FAST FAST. Just one match after not playing the game for about a week and a half literally had me about to vomit because of how quickly the characters move.

DUST may not be perfect atm, but it is far from being horrendous and as bad as some of we "bitter vets" make it seem. With the upcoming 1.7 major content drop, I feel like that 1.7 may just be the patch that turns DUST around...a new chapter for DUST so to speak.

So, you pay 60$ for a game that you have to play for the MP, which eventually, WILL get boring, just like DUST has.

It's a good post, Aisha Ctarl, even for an Ammarian butcher such as yourself ;)

My feeling on the rage people feel over this game is that is springs from two sources:

 1) Most peeps have a miscalibrated timescale on how long it should have and will take to grow DUST to the point where it can begin to realize it's potential/promises. As a case in point look at all the peeps saying that CCP lied and DUST's connections to New Eden are trivial and pointless. That might be true now but in a year those connections will be profound, myriad and with drive the evolution of both games.

 2) CCP thinks for themselves, and has the courage to stand their ground in the face of both universal opprobrium and well-meaning supplications to common sense. This can look like they're not listening, but they are - it's just that if they believe in an idea they're going to give themselves enough rope to hang themselves with, and that changes take time to implement and have to wait for their spot in the roadmap to come up.

This is not to say that serious mistakes have not been made, but as far as i'm concerned this rocky process is what i expect from any pioneering, genre-defying public alpha/beta live development venture. This design/feedback process we're engaged in right now in DUST is prolly unique in all of gaming. Even EVE didn't have to deal with integrating into a live real economy and existing geopolitics directly affecting hundreds of thousands of paying customers.

It ain't over, and it ain't gonna be pretty. But it is gonna be a helluva ride.

I can let just about fault slide for this game except uneven racial content deployment. CCP has never deployed just one race's version of a ship in EVE and said, "Other ones are on the way you guys. Promise."

They're lagging behind their own standard. As soon as CCP fixes the glaring holes, I'll be a happy camper.

Dust is a beta yet not a beta. Every game has glitches perhaps every game for all time will have such issues as lag, glitches & freezes. Lastly on a more philosophical tone humans are "beautifully" imperfect beings so it's fair to argue they can't create perfection just things that humans themselves believe is great & perfect all though it may not be they believe it is.

Personally I like Dust 514 very much & on a huge scale I want it to last 10 years or longer or even better be a never ending story like with the Final Fantasy or Zelda series for example, something that just doesn't go away because it has become a part of the culture forever.

To me it is perfect in it's own right & in a way I like that it's kinda broken because we get to create it together no other game that I can think of takes the player's actual ideas & implaments it in adding on to the experience. It's like us, the players are actually in the board room brain storming how to make it all even better then going to enjoy it ourselves.

Though it has a ways to go I'm looking forward to the journey & not neccessarily the end.

I am going to remain on break. The game is still not where I want it to be and despite the new rapidfire updates, it seems that they are not as rapid as we hoped and becoming less and less rapid. The content that follows is still not enough to date, because PC is still plagued with lag, matchmaking is not broken but it fails from its core, not many new suits or weapons added, disagreeable balance between vehicles and infantry. I see less complaining about weapon balancing and that is REAL good. I'm also waiting for more content than just 4 game modes and PC. Where is the PVE? Can we get more faction war content? I'm wondering if it could be possible to draw more attention to the faction war game mode and hopefully introduce a new gamemode.

Anyway, I will continue to wait because it is still the same DUST514 that I took a break from. Doesn't feel like it has changed or grown in 4 months.

People are having a lot of issues with the PC version as well. Dice dropped the ball, is all.

Also anybody complaining BF4 is a "COD Clone" Obviously didn't play much of BF3. They're just using it as leverage now because the game was optimized & handled poorly.

I don't think BF4 being bad makes Dust any better off. Devs SHOULD listen to their playerbase, but the task of fixing things that are broken is monumental, and trust me, in time your bitterness will return. You don't like bad games, and experiencing a game that's currently worse than Dust in terms of performance and alleged gameplay changes won't make Dust better than it is.

PC is possibly plagued by lag because certain corporation's & players purposely create the lag themselves to win.

Scotty error only happens in FW not pubs really that's due to 2 of 4 Factions always having 99-100% of all FW constallations resulting in Scotty error & as soon as a FW district opens it's subject to immediate attack. - a point made by Aero of PIE Inc.

New suits & weapons are lacking but they are on the way relatively soon.

Agreed on the desire of new game modes, please CCP I want to destroy drones getting slightly bored of other merc's.

Multi-stage factional warfare was a idea created by Aero of PIE Inc. & it will be eventually implamented thankfully I believe.

I'm actually enjoying Battlefield 4 on PS3... I got it right when I quit playing Dust and been playing it pretty much exclusively since then. Going to do the little $10 upgrade to the PS4 version then play it on that once I buy the PS4 probably sometime next summer or fall. Though I do agree a bit with the OP. Some of my bitterness is vanishing. However, that doesn't mean I forgive CCP for the games failings. I think part of CCP's problem is that with EVE they have virtually no competition in the internet space ships department. Then they create a game that is in one of the most overly saturated markets ever and it is not up to par so it sinks faster than a brick.

In anycase, Dust has potential but CCP squandered it by rushing an unfinished product.

The Thing about DUST for ME is:

Every time there is a patch (that are frequent) there is a high chance the game will get better.
And i already enjoy it as it is, this coming from a ''lone wolf'' that gets protos stomped or squad stomped 90% of the time.

Im always exited for the new weapons or new features and even if i do feel the LAG, the horrible matchmaking , etc... I have the feeling it will only get better.
Now if only CCP would consider give us some kind of repec option, i would be one happy lad....

Just one match after not playing the game for about a week and a half literally had me about to vomit because of how quickly the characters move. The forums are also vastly different as well. On the BF4 forums, all it is are people literally ripping their hair out over how awful BF4 appears on the PS3 and X360. There is nothing but pure hatred for DICE/EA and people swearing they will return the game as soon as they can. The most notorious complaint on their forums is that DICE made the game play far too much like COD (which I agree, BF4 is now CODField 4) and I can just imagine the tears of anger and disgust falling onto their keyboards as they type fervently about how "their" beloved battlefield is now dead. The only time you see a "DEV" on the BF4 forums is when they are locking a thread because it has gotten too out of hand. CCP actually cares about us and the game and often listens to our feedback. CCP is also slowly becoming more open and is communicating with us more transparently. DICE/EA never engaged with their playerbase except through the news section once apologizing for launch day bugs. DUST may not be perfect atm, but it is far from being horrendous and as bad as some of we "bitter vets" make it seem. With the upcoming 1.7 major content drop, I feel like that 1.7 may just be the patch that turns DUST around...a new chapter for DUST so to speak. Nice, was wondering about BF4.

Let's thank CCP for putting up with all our **** on a daily basis. They really are a top game maker. Things aren't perfect atm but given CCP's track record, they will be SOON!

See how cunning CCP have been? They don't need an advertising campaign. Slowly, it'll just become apparent that DUST is better and will get better, and that draws people in far more than a pretty trailer.

After months of bad reputation, average reviews, and countless forum rage threads (may not be as bad as battle log forums but we can't say we don't have em), how much better will CCP look, especially since they haven't made one excuse for their game being how it is now, and just constantly chip away at it?

As C.S. Lewis puts it: "True humility is not thinking less of yourself; it is thinking of yourself less."

CCP doesn't have to say anything good about their game, we I will eventually do it for them.
