I believe there is already some type of "Ion Orbital" already, which only takes out shields, but apparently it's completely useless and never used from what I gather.
It'd be cool if it operated like this:
One large pulse, rather than a rain of blasts, with a large blast radius which is able to pass through buildings. The pulse will deplete shields to zero, destroy equipment (hives/links), and temporarily disable vehicles/deplete shields. Anyone who is hit the blast would also have their radar scrambled for a short time. The effective radius will also be greater than a standard orbital, meaning you'll need to be more careful in the upcoming FW battles.
I think this would be a very viable option to use as an orbital, an give them some cool variety. |

I hate weapons that only take out shields. I'm fine with weapons that are much more effective against shields, but the ones that only take out shields are the worst. They are either useless, overpowered, or both.
Also, the anti-shield ammunition is called "Tactical EMP S", used by Small Autocannon and Artillery Turrets (Winmatar).

This kind of orbital strike would probably be more favorable if the effect on shields meant it also didn't let the shields regenerate for a couple minutes and even affect the targets upon respawn, i.e. if you get hit by it and die during that period, when you respawn your shields are at 0 and will be until the effect wears off.

That is definitely too OP

The way I envisioned it anyways, it would be effective enough simply with the ability to pass through wills, disable vehicles, potentially scramble radar, and disable shields. Let's not get carried away

It would be very good, especially if it can cover a larger area than normal OB, very usefull to fight equipment spam over large areas and underground places.

It would depend on the timer. I was thinking 60 seconds but it could be 30 or something like that.

It's called a tactical EMPS (we only got small OB types atm, and that's what the S is.). Anyways, not worth it imo. I'd rather have drone strikes/ explosive projectile strikes first.

Agreed. No one wants to have their corp call in the EMP S strikes. Most of us actually want the laser strikes since they are definitely going to kill what they hit and there is a lower chance of your team mates being murdered in the process.
Now with more obscenities!

Different situations require different solutions. And more variety isn't a bad thing. ... Which is exactly why I proposed a buff to the EMP strikes ...
