I've been playing DUST since the closed beta and I barely create or respond on a post due to the massive QQ and or lack of positive, informative comments. But meh, I feel like this could actually be a really good idea to promote DUST Mercs to feel important in the whole Grand Scheme of the EVE/DUST world. This would likely take a long time to develop but more and more I'm getting a push to put this idea on the forums.
An option to sit on your couch in front of your T.V. should be implemented that allows you to flip through 4 "news channels" that will display a short ~5min "news feed" of the current weekly standings in the factional warfare and district fight. Or have just 1 channel that will play a 15min video telling the Dust Mercs how last weeks battles and events play out and/or how the "war is going". This could be downloaded/streamed viewed after Wednesday reset for convenience once the player first logs on.
How can this be accomplished?
CCP can take the lead in this since they had worked hard on DEV Blog videos in the past, but I don't believe this would be the most viable option as they are hard at work pumping out updates. I know for a fact that EVE/DUST has a huge community of fanatics that would likely love to have there hand in this. Dress up as news casters, coordinate with CCP on the topics to be discussed, record it and upload it. Some might even go all out if they have green screens and add "video" from supporting individuals of their recorded battles in the background or what not.
Obviously this is just a skeleton of an idea BUT:
This could inform Dust players every week the importance of this or that, how their faction is doing, any major news of battles from the EVE side or just help new DUST players understand the "whole picture" and help them understand that what they do with their corporation in factional warfare, PC battles and anything else is actually meaningful.
Maybe something that can be implemented sooner is updating VICKY (the name I gave the females' voice that informs you of battle changes or tells you not to commit suicide) while in the Warbarge. Having her inform people while waiting for battle that new events are here, or you only have X amount of days to buy this or that, or even saying scripted tidbits on events that happened on EVE and telling mercs to go to "X" website or "Y" website to find out more.
Let me know what you guys think. I personally am tired of seeing the Market place on the screen and whatever wack-ass "commercials" are on the two side screens. |
