Can profile dampeners hide that red dot over my head? it would help me camouflage in dark areas.

Well I mean...... obviously yes..... that's the whole point of them..... Now if your looking to hide from proto scanners then I believe the magic number is three complex dampeners. But just having one or two would cloak you from the normal riff raft scanning.

I don't know. I use 1 enhanced on my Caldari Shotty, but I can't tell if it's the dampener or just people not checking their radar often. |

no, no they can't. The only thing profile dampeners do is hide you on the mini-map and from scanners. It will not hide you from any line of sight discovery, however because it has direct impact on the effectiveness of scanners, you won't light up from a scan if your profile signature is small enough.
Bottom line:
Line of sight detection: no, the chevron will still show up.
scanned detection: yes, the flashy chevron will not show up. |

I've been doing it for a few versions now. It's actually doable when you use dampeners. The only things that can pick me up is a scanner (which I hilariously deny if it's standard) or line of sight. Be wary of corners. A ninja heavy lurks.
I used to shotgun/knife as a heavy, but I'll return to that at 1.6. My current trend is the shotgun/AR Commando with either R/Es or a repair tool. I may be wearing a heavy suit, but I'm a logibro at heart.

Its funny you mentioned this became just yesterday there was a shotty scout that kept slaughtering me in a spawn that I swear didn't have a chevron. Confusing as hell. |

I've found when hunting snipers with my cheap sniper build, if they have dampeners then you have to aim a lot closer to them before the red arrow shows above their head, but in CQC it only really helps for scanners and raider stuff

I remember someone did some extensive testing earlier confirming that the line of sight has a distinct range limit of about 80m while using an assault rifle. However the line of sight range might change depending on the weapon you use.
CCP, please fix the Nova Knives. Thank you.
