So, two teams are filling up before a battle. The game engine obviously is aware of the existence of squads. Yet, somehow, both of the elite corp squads get put on the same team, while 10-16 randoms are on the other team. There is a simple fix that will massively improve this: split the squads between the teams.
For example, consider the following set of 32 players: 6-squad, 6-squad, 5-squad, 4-squad, 11 randoms Should be partitioned into: 6-squad, 5-squad, 5 randoms 6-squad, 4-squad, 6 randoms NOT 6-squad, 6-squad, 4-squad 5-squad, 11 randoms
I'm sick of entering a match to find that it's me and 15 unsquadded players vs two full Nyain San/Outer.Heaven/AE squads (just picking on you guys for being good). It doesn't seem like it should be that hard for the matchmaking algorithm to evenly split squads between two teams.
Thoughts? Can anyone think of a reason why this isn't already the standard system? It seems obvious. |

One simple change?
I expected to see: ADD PLAYERS
Because that is the one simple change that will improve matchmaking

Well, obviously, but that's not really something CCP can directly change, and the two aren't mutually exclusive. |

This is what's so frustrating ( to both dust players and devs)...CCP seems to believe that thier current matchmaker is in good working order.
Now, I realize that statement is contentious and debatable. And while I don't have blue forum posts to support it, it is my understanding that CCP believes the matchmaker we have will work well - if - dust has a certain critical mass of active players to match.
Hard to test without those players. If someone from the CPM or someone with further insight to ccp's position regarding the matchmaker would chime in that would be helpful.
But, if true, then I wouldn't change a thing until we test it with a decent playerbase. Let's not design systems around the anemic and shriveled group of addicts who still play this game regularly ( that would be me and all twelve of you left reading this).
Let's build it right and find a way to get them to come play. Mr Reid? Care to suggest how we can help with that? |

The thing is, there will never be a decent player base if we throw random newberries to the wolves as soon as they graduate from the academy.
It's one thing for a newb to be killed by a protobear, then see his own team's proto players retaliate. That's when the gear imbalance in New Eden is fun, as the various gear levels work together. Occasionally the newb will pick off a proto player, and it will be satisfying for them and keep them hooked.
It's something else entirely, though, to see Ambush OMS matches that finish 60-0 and 70-0, because there are two full proto squads versus 16 MLT/STD players. That's what causes ragequits and a sense of futility that drives new players away. Either the big corps need to sacrifice their fun for the sake of the NPE, or matchmaking and the NPE have to change. |
