I have been running my sica for 2 days now. I know my sica isn't a real tank but it feels like one and drives like one so I hope I don't receive rotten tomatoes from you guys. My tank routine consists of playing Minmatar and gallente FW (Caldari and Ammar are usually noobs) and destroying every single turret I can find.
My tank has 1 converse shield booster, 1 efficient shield extender, 1 surge' hardener.
I have killed a couple of **** Maddrugars and a few Gunlogies but I can honestly say that AVs are kind of ruining the game for me... I didn't even see anything and I just exploded. |

Lorhac! I am trying to run my sica as you would - loose them rarely. And about that Maddy - yeah, I deleted it as I didn't know how to play it. So I am learning again. This time backing it up with money from my main. |

I think that's when you call in a Sica the game should give you multiple popup windows asking are you sure about four to six times. AV is getting nerfed but your Sica will always be ****

Tanks aren't the only vehicles in the game. The dropship has been getting shafted in every build and update that CCP pulls out.

Well, I have not run Proto Swarm Launcher in weeks. You are welcome. 
Also, Lorhak traded his tank for a Scrambler Rifle and is getting more kills with it than he did with the tank, as far as I can tell. When we get Amarr tanks he is going to be unstoppable!

Basically, what everyone in this thread except the dropshipper has said - skill Gunny.
It's about 400k SP from memory, to pump up your survivability pretty dramatically. It's not too much more expensive, and I'd make a pretty strong argument that the extra tank you can get will improve your survivability pretty dramatically.
Not so sure about fittings, but I don't think active hardeners are very popular among shield tankers at the moment; I know I'd not use them - too risky. Can't guarantee I'd be able to get them active for when that swarmer locks me, considering sometimes you can't hear them, and, well, forges have pretty damn short travel time.
I think Wards are where it's at.

If you look at history most soldiers die by shots to the chest or grenades landing nearby.
