How does a complete noob and scrub like me learn more about New Eden and its lore?
I know there were some useful links posted up above but I want to hear from the true veteran historians. What do you guys recommend? My interest is in the Amarr culture. I would like to learn more about the Amarr first.. then branch off to other parts of the lore..

EVElopedia is the prime location for all the CCP written lore, for the Amarr you should look here. Check here to find more info about the Scriptures, a core part of the Amarr culture. For other, harder to find information and theorycrafting about things not written in the lore, Backstage is a good place for that. And finally, you can always ask here, we usually have a good knowledge about the EVE lore.

Bump the Praetoriate Library in the IGS, it has the entire collection of Amarrian texts. Reading them will get you right up to speed, then I would start with the histories of all of the other racial groups, then look as you interest piques for the other factions.
The chronicles are the bits you should read if you want to understand amarr culture.

Personally I loved "All These Lives are Fit to Ruin". Not much in terms of the lore of empires, but just another way to view us immortals, mainly capsuleers. One of the stories that swayed me to think about getting into EVE.
