I just recently started using the CDW on my alt, and it's amazing. I do have Proficiency 3 and 2 Enhanced Damage Mods (haven't felt like spending SP to get complex), so it has a little more punch to it. But still. I feel like the ASCR is one of the most underrated weapons in the game.
If you use ARs and feel like they're pea shooters, try out the ASCR. It has more recoil and more punch so it just FEELS like a serious weapon. I think my CDW with proficiency 3 is a lot stronger than my GEK with proficiency 5. Maybe it has to do with the overwhelming majority of the people using shield based suits...

i generally use regular scram rifles, but when i was starting out using scram rifles i liked the ASCR a lot was a easier transition from AR to scram rifles.

The Assault variant is automatic and the hipfire on it is GODLY. I can't use semi-auto weapons. I never have been able to on any game.

It's really only good for tight spaces against shield-tanked targets. I prefer the semi-auto version for its longer range accuracy. |

Good, I have been using them for about a month now, (the regular ones not the ASCR) I'd hate to realize I've had them backwards this whole time.

I have been running the ASCR as my primary for a while and it's a pretty handy weapon that's for sure. My opinion...one of the more balanced.
ASCR observations & notes:
- Love the red dot scope...way easier to quickscope in mid-range fights or do precision pick-offs of guys in hiding.
- HATE the recoil..it's a pulse laser! The Laser Rifle should be like trying to control a fire hose of high pressure a$$ whipping if lasers had recoil.
- Shield Tankers (large % of players) are ripe for the picking.
- Armor Tankers / Heavies....oh boy. Better be good with your sidearm or grenades. Once you chew threw shields and they are reacting to your attack you'll have a serious disadvantage if you don't finish them quick. The -20 dmg to Armor quickly starts to come back to bite you. I have gotten VERY good with switching to my SMG for the finish or if it's a CQB situation.
- Much as I like the ASCR I'm really looking forward to the Rail Rifle. I'm trying to purefleet my gear to Caldari and I'm running around with a big gold phayllic symbol that has "Flaming Lance of Heresy Termination" in stylish script on the side. |

I tried the Standards a while back.
I saw where they could be awesome, but it wasn't the thing for me.
I personally don't like pulling up a scope automatically. If there's one with just iron sights or whatever, that might be alright. With a scoping option - even better.
And, the SFX were a little weak and cartoony for my liking. (I thought it sounded like a little girl holding her baby dolls going "pew, pew, pew")
