A few weeks back I made a thread asking why was dust (weather effect) removed from the game. Vid for reference, start at 0:58 and ignore talks.

I still remember old Manus Peak back when B was up by the tower, A was on the hill, and C was in the bowl.
The dust effects were amazing back then. |

That explosion at 1:03 had just the right amount of "pop" to it.
Wonder why the explosions in the actual game look like such complete crap in comparison. |

There was a lot of things from beta that well... wouldn't and shouldn't fly in a released game.
Not just maps, but just about every nuance in this game is in the process of getting, gutted, operated on, removed and replaced with something that works hopefully in the end better.
Remember my earlier statements on how skirmish 1.0 was buried? It's still somewhat true, the coding that would enable skirmish 1.0 again would break the rest of the game if brought back to surface. Which is why it had to be fixed upon and corrected so now we're patiently waiting for skirmish 3.0 to be.
So there is plenty of rewrites going on for sure. Most recent victim has been camera rigging as some drop ship pilots have noticed, CPM been giving CCP videos of where the old camera was rigged so hopefully it should return to reasonable or close to as before. When uprising 1.0 came out we had all new maps for sure but the sockets are still minus the new texture work are code wise the old sockets still (which did not play nice with new code as some found out stairs become death traps)
I am hoping the worst of the overwriting and rebuilding is done and over with. While biomass and comms may get an overhaul it will be a complete overhaul then bring its design philosophy up in par with the newer SI sich as the Gallente Lab, Caldari Production Facility and Minmatar cargo hubs and I know the orbital artillery Socket is one of the first known to be back in the do it over again barrel.
All this in the name of optimization, sadly. Want the game to run faster? got to break some legs and replace them with wheels.
Hopefully as time progresses we start to get more moods back and get brand new ones to come along with it. |
