Ok so I wanted to contribute something to the forums, and Devs willing something to the game itself. So I thought about my previous experience with various games and came to an idea. I play a scout. Scout's scout things. That's what we do. Other than having a microphone though, we cannot communicate with our team unless we happen to have a squad in skype. So I propose this piece of equipment based off of two games.
The tracer dart involves a special whisper silent pistol type device that allows you to fire a small transmitting beacon onto a vehicle or dropsuit. This idea came from bad company (The first one) where the recon had a piece of equipment that did this exact thing. This beacon consists of a visual tiny red flashing light wherever the dart happens to hit visible from quite a distance as a slow flashing beacon light and a regular target icon. Now for the gameplay mechanics to make it interesting.
The beacon will feed information to your team, similar to a scanner, but on a small scale for a longer duration. This would be mainly to track vehicles or dropsuits around the map, ideally lasting for around 1 minute in duration. This should also feed a bonus to those running swarm launchers that increases their damage by lets say 1% per incoming missile (Idea taken from the Narc missile beacon from battletech tabletop). This could also increase the travel distance for a set of missiles by lets say 25%, giving them a reason to be used in tandem with a squad
Other mechanics to think about possibly: Assisting aim for forge gunners is a possibility Shots at basic level = 3, additional ammunition skill? Increased time of effect per operation level? cpu/pg fitting cost (Should stay fairly light unless adding bonuses to av weapons) Target information from the icon when panned over Should possibly not trigger an alarm on a vehicle, leaving it to the pilot to detect the device through their own eyes.
Discussions, questions, comments, snide remarks all welcome.

"Tracer" is a confusing term. That aside, it's an interesting idea, though I doubt it will be considered. |

That being said, I know it likely wont be considered. However like I used to do in battletech, homegrown stuff is always interesting for me to at least theorize on. |

I think I understand what you're trying to portray. Instead of having this as a piece of equipment, I'd rather see this come in the form of revamped squad orders.
So instead of just the squad leaders being able to put down squad orders, members of that squad would be able to paint targets for a limited period of time.
Nevertheless, good idea; although, the equipment sounds more Crusader-like (because of the squad bonuses) than Scout-like. |

Perhaps instead of increasing damage or flight time for swarms, it should increase lock range - seeing a that is about to get a big nerf.
Like the idea though. |

Nice idea kinda cool but the active scanner is still around.
Maybe if the target moves around near another target then he would be flashing aswell? |

Now that the swarm launcher range has been nerfed to 175 this could be interesting. A tracked vehicle could be locked at greater range making SW Slightly more effective but without giving them a real buff. |

What's the difference between an immobile Minmatar ship and a pile of garbage?
The pile of garbage is more lethal.

No. But it's better than making a new one. |

I would like to see whatever it hits becomes targetable by swarms and adds a guiding system for other av
An example of this "guiding system" would be this
You are using a plasma cannon your teammate hits a tank with a tracer A small targeting box appears near the tank while using the plasma cannon that shows where to fire to hit the target
Real heavies use lasers

I'd love to see the face of the heavy who looks up to see a salvo of swarm missiles coming his way.

+1 I like it tho I would make it last until that fitting is lost/swapped out but I'll take it either way. |
