Eve has cloaking devices, they are not game breaking, and have several detriments generally. I don't run scouts, but I think this could be some love for them and they would probably love it. Any suit with equipment slots could use them, but scouts would probably get the most out of something like this
Here is my suggestion.
Cloaking Devices make the suit invisible to all scanning, and the toon is invisible to normal sight. Sprinting decloaks automatically.
Cloaks use a lot of power. Base the cloaks energy consumption on shields. While the cloak is active it bleeds off the shields. Also movement would be slowed because the cloaking effect would distort if the toon moved too quickly. This is a mechanic in EVE in regards to cloaks as well... Lastly, as an added mechanic, the cloak cannot activate if shield levels aren't at a certain point. You cannot attack while cloaked. When you run out of shields you auto decloak.
Ok, here are my ideas for the cloak in game terms.
Skills
Cloaking Devices skill Prerequisites - Dropsuit upgrades 5 x8 SP multiple
Cloaking Device Engineering Prerequisites - Cloaking Devices 1 5% reduction in cpu usage / lvl
Cloaking Device Proficiency Prerequisites- Cloaking Device 4 5% reduction in speed penalty / lvl
Cloaking Device Optimization Prerequisites - Cloaking Device 3 5% reduction of shield consumption / lvl
Uses an equipment slot.
Basic Cloaking Device (I don't know how they calculate CPU/PG so id say make it reasonable enough for scouts to equip them.) Movement penalty 90% 2% shield drain/second Reactivation : 100% shields
Advanced Cloaking Device Movement penalty 50% 3% shield drain/second Reactivation : 75% shields
Prototype Cloaking Device Movement Penalty 25% 4% shield drain/second Reactivation : 50% shields

The shield drain would make the cloak only really viable for armor tankers. |

That's the reason I thought a percentage of shields was better than a set amount.. scout suits regen their shields very very quickly

Using percentages actually makes things worse.
For the same amount of time being cloaked, a suit with most of its eHP in shields will lose a larger percentage of their eHP than a suit with most of its eHP in armor.
edit: And the fact that you become completely undetectable would make the cloak too powerful. |

i just think u should stick out on the mini map if cloaked.
so its an indirect means of targeting them.

CCP is already planning on implementing cloaks. But not in the exact fashion you mentioned.
Source: http://dust514.com/news/blog/2013/03/equipment-is-your-friend/
1. Active scanners will still spot you unless you have sufficient profile dampening. 2. Actions (example: shooting) will deactivate the cloak. 3. Sprinting will cause the cloak to fluctuate a bit. 4. Will be an equipment item. 5. Turret won't track you.
No mention of any tie-in to the shields. |

Cloak needs to be limited to certain suit types. |

How about visibility on your radar if within passive scan range? Also, although I agree with some sort of movement penalty, I think only having it useable while crouched would still be fair without having to resort to the crippling 90% reduction. Fairly well thought out though, I've been wishing for something like this for awhile. |

That will just render cloaks useless to be honest with you. I have seen a similar effect in the Halo series.
In Halo, your cloak generates a series of random dots on the enemy's radar. But anyone who is smart enough will simply sweep the general area with a Promethean Suppressor and wait a second or two for a stray shot to hit you and fluctuate your shield which lights up for others to see. If a Scorpion Tank sees the random dots, all he has to do is aim at the center of the random dots and let the splash damage kill you.
Besides, adding such a feature will undermine the role of the active scanners. Passive scans are passive for a reason. |
