The balance in the economy is not going to come about from people using free suit fittings and banking all the money they win from matches. If that'd be the case, CCP would nerf the income from battles so hard anyone using "paid" suits would go bankrupt.
The fix for CCP is to balance a match's isk win/loss around an average. The average for the "loss" category can't be zero. I'm not sure what CCP is going to do about the BPO situation. I, myself, have many BPOs that I play with as well. I'm just realistic on the fact that having free things really isn't a CCP or an Eve thing, and I'd be delusional to continue to believe that I'd be able to run free suits or nearly-free suits in perpetuity.
The design of the game is to put your isk on the line to make more isk in the end. That's the most basic premise of it. Sure, weapon disparities and other currently-imbalanced issues have to be addressed, but at the end of the day it will be about everything having a cost. I wouldn't be surprised if Orbital Strikes began having a cost (both MCC ones and Eve ones).
What I haven't heard the answer to, though, is that if "free" fits are a huge problem, then what is to stop someone from just running militia fits (not even supplied by AUR-sourced BPOs) exclusively? That would effectively circumvent the "everything costs" design.
To answer that, it's the shear difference in performance and the set nature of the free fits. If I want the fit to have what I want on it, I have to pay for it. If I want the fit to have decent amounts of HP, I have to pay for it. If I want the suit to have a decent gun, I have to pay for it. Eventually, I've replaced the entire suit with stuff I have to pay for without even realizing it. It's like the free newbship you get in EVE whenever you dock up in a pod. It comes with a gun, but it'll never shoot down a Rifter. BPOs are more like having infinite Rifters... |
