CCP , Id like to see a new tutorial for newberies starting this game. Have single player objectives that teach the player basics of the game. Have them learn how to hack objectives and give them a reason why. Have the attack an objective by themselves against 1 or two npc drones that are weak. then hack the objective followed by a defense. Go thru small things like how to do fittings, suggested paths for skill points.
When they are done with the 1st person tutorial, enroll them into the battle acadamy with 1 million sp (proposed by Charlotte). In the acadamy have them learn to work as a squad (with a built in squad builder) and make those 6 mercs attack an objective (dominatoin mode) while having the other side learn how to defend an objective.
I believe these things are key to keeping this game alive with new players. it gives them a sense of confidence in how to play the game, teaches them the basics (so vets dont rage) and gives them a good base to build from. These basic training sessions are things that i do within my corp. It really has produced some good players that have a new found love of the game and confidence.

P.s. maybe 1.5 sp bonus until 10sp is reached |

Starting them with 1mil SP is too much. As to the rest, sounds fine. Does the video tutorial explain squad commands? |

Yes but not until the acadamy. 1 million is earned thru training tutorials.

No, Application of learning should provide the SP. With a video showing what to do this should make the process easier. I have even made some of this type of video in the past and have seen quite a few mercs benefit from them. Did you mean increase the SP needed to leave the Academy to 1mil SP? If so would the current WP grading system be discarded? |

what the tutorial needs is: 1. how to join a squad
2. how to join a corp.
3. how to buy things
4. how to go to and add chat channels and look at notifications.
5. tell them more about weapons and what they do
6. explain to them what roles are best at what
7. how to call in a vehicle during combat
8. how to give squad orders in combat if they are squad leader
9. help them skill into what class they want (if they want to be assault then they should skill into 'X' racial assualt class with armor/shield modules, and a std weapon if logi they should get X logi with std equipment and a decent weapon ext.)
10. if they want to skill into vehicles then they should get good modules first to fit the militia tanks and and then skill into standard tanks.
11. better/more rewards for completing more things, that help them progress through the game
also the academy needs the wp cap to 5000 so that experienced players can get out in 5-6 games but new players can stay in longer. |

The devs should try to model a single player tutorial after the one in MAG. Go here, crawl under this, jump over this, throw a 'nade at this, shoot this, rep this.
But i think they should use the "future tech" to make the combat training more real.
They could have the trainee spawn in a logi suit with a repair tool and have them rep an LAV thats on fire and use it to drive to a supply depot somewhere on the field, where they would change into an assault suit. After changing suits they would be directed to approach a null cannon held by (Rather under skilled) AI mercs in different suits so the trainee can learn to fight against them.
After the null cannon is taken you could have a group of (Again, under skilled) red tanks move towards the objective, direct the trainee to move back to the supply depot and change to an AV fit. During the fight with the tanks multiple turret installations could be dropped in allowing the trainee to hack and use them to finish off the tanks.
At this point a blue dropship can do a cinematic landing nearby at which point a 4 man fire team would jump out and direct the trainee to get in (Think Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2). This would would close with a video of a leader form you faction giving a speech (maybe similar to the message you receive when you first play dust now.) at a basic training graduation ceremony. |

Vindictus has a wonderul system for NpE: Player starts game, creates first character, intitiate tutorial(same as now) After tutorial and return to camp, a box pops up- "this guild has signed up to recruit new players, if you would like to apply, press Ok" Upon pressing either Ok or No, player is portaled to the guild application page, with the recruiting guild already pulled up.
How this could work with corps on dust could be: directors/ceo can place a check on a box in edit corp, called "send recruiting to starting players?" After academy peeps finish first match requirement, upon re-entering mq, a corp is randomly selected from the list and shown to the player. Player chooses Yes or No, and is taken to the application page.
I would appreciate yayz or nayz on this suggestion :) |

I think that with new players there should be a mode for just STD or ADV max -no proto with all such as mods or weapons. This well at least give them a chance to be at the same level but then the only downfall is with a regular pub match it would probably be full of Proto so I think the amount of ISK should be based out a little more in an aspect well something atleast has to be done to help new comers or they will just hate the game and leave because so many of us out do them due to fitting not much doing with skill itself. |

I really do like cpl bloodstone's ideas.
Its hard to get a grip on this game, and a faster way to atleast 10mil SP gets more people in to make em stay.
I also see other good ideas in this threat. explaining how to get interactive within the community is a big point to me. Dust is Meta game. without this the game would have 0chance to survive. and the more people get in touch with this crazy world. the more intresting it will get.
there should be like recommended skill paths from which you can choose. talking about core skills every player needs. this should not be super secret knowledge,
We dont only need to see THAT we have an impact on Eve. We should get something what explains what this actually means. Dusts big point is the connection to eve, so why dont we have a video which explains what this means?
informations, thats what new players need! |

1 mil isn't even a tenth of what the current players have, and they're put head first into matches with them in every fight. Even at 7 mil SP it's impossible to compete with the current players' ability to fit the best weapons and be able to pay for them all. |

I tried to put a level into Amarr Commando once, but got a server notification saying "Why?"

Even at 7 mil SP it's impossible to compete with the current players' ability to fit the best weapons and be able to pay for them all. It is entirely possible and happens often enough that I would think you would have realized this by now. Picture a 6 man squad of noobs rolling up on objective A with their starter fits (425dps from an AR) all focusing their firepower on the heavy guarding A. Now the heavy is dead and all they need to do is repeat the process with the rest of the people sitting on A. The gap in the SP between a noob and a vet should be all the incentive they need to join a corp and start making friends and get some solid instruction.
Basic tactics in the videos could be explained. For instance, joining a squad, focusing fire on enemies and how to activate your voice coms so that players on your team or squad can voice up and chat with you. These things make a huge difference in a match, even more so than hacking the objectives and clone unis. A good introduction video would be one where you see a squad moving from the spawn point in a cluster with a scout in front scanning a heavy somewhere near the leading edge of the main group and a logi and assault players bringing up the rear. They would be scanning for groups and when found they would turn their attention to them as a unit. They would then move into objective B with the Logi Hacking the objective while the rest of the squad protects him. When the Logi finishes hacking he gets sniped in the head but not before dropping an Uplink at the objective as well as a nano hive. He spawns back on the uplink with and pulls out a repair tool to heal the armor of the heavy who is standing in front of the Uplink to protect the logi as he spawns in. Fade to Black Dust 514 pops up on screen and que the music.
These tactics are common and would emphasize teamwork, and show the necessity of being in a squad as well as some of the basic movement and equipment options available. Tutorials could follow with videos specialized for each type of role mercs play on the battlefield. The availability of the tutorials could be linked to skills purchased. For instance if someone gets the Vehicles skillbook an intro video about the various vehicles available would be shown. If you purchased the skillbook for LAV operation you would see the video about how you can fit and drive your LAV.
The whole premise of the game is that you learn from buying the skillbooks but unfortunately you don't. You may have the skills to use them but how do you land a dropship without blowing it up? Or how do you activate an armor repair module and where is the armor indicator in a vehicle? These are questions that need to be answered for a person to actually have the skills to use the item, vehicle or weapon that could easily be explained with a video walthrough of the skill involved and what it does for you.
