On the stats screen right after I died it said
Core locus grenade : 990 damage dealt. ...how?
Cores do 600 damage. If that was all armor damage it would be a maximum of 720 damage.
But I had a 250 shield buffer...and explosives only do 80% damage to shields right? Even so, let's pretend that the shield resistance doesn't exist and just take away 250 from the total damage (600), which leaves us with 350.
350 x 1.2 = 420 420 + 250 =/ 990
What's going on here? Does the damage multiply further if it's close to my head? Is 600 damage the "average" damage or the maximum base damage?
It's just annoying when I was instantly killed by these things 3 times in a row in the last match, and I have almost 900 ehp |

This is DUST.
The documentation, such as it is, is more like a ... guideline. Not like actual rules or such.
Nobody has found that the documentation has been all that accurate in the past. Ninja buffs and Nerfs move the values around weekly anyway and the docs never reflect any of those changes. Stuff just changes. And if the held the Devs to the documentation well ... the world might end. Or worse, the code would be able to be checked for functionality. Which is exactly like the world ending.
Consider the range for anything. Sniper rifles are one I know a little about. I bought Farsight AUR rifles. They are useless now and there was never a refund. Spent Real World Cash to get ripped off by CCP/Shanghai. How you ask? Well the Farsight was the only SR that started at 1000m range, all the others were limited to 600m. Even Proto. When sharpshooter (the real one ... not the lame version we have since uprising) was maxed and light weapon sharpshooter along with it ... 1.5km shots. My longest kill was ~1350m, of course we didn't have grass or snow but we could see the target at that range. I knew snipers that had longer kills than myself. I am an okay sniper, sometimes good even but I have never claimed greatness. Still, spending AUR on a sniper rifle that is just like all the others, silly me.
What about Forge Guns? No range given. Sucker went on until it hit something. Ever been counter sniped from across the map (lengthwise)? By a Forge Gun? Hurts, let me tell ya. Now, 299m. Cool in a we must love the grass sort of way. First time I found out I was in a normal spot, ready to pop a rail gun turret. Emptied the clip ... nothing. So I moved closer until it worked. At 301m Zero damage, at 299m the magic was back. A lot less useful but back. At least I learned my lesson. I don't have AUR forge guns.
This is how it is down in the DUST. Best get used to it. |

If that's the case then grenades need a serious reworking, or should at least be looked at in terms of how their blast radius deals damage to a player. Explosion damage shouldn't do more damage at the head than the body. |

Definitely agreeing with Kal here. In my experience all of the damages displayed on the kill screen are suspect. I took 1615 dmg from a standard sniper rifle yesterday in a bpo suit. 1200 from a militia locus. If I die to a laser, it's almost always between 850-1000dmg. It goes the other way too, I've had tons of 1v1 where I was killed by somebody doing between 1/4-1/2 of my hp in dmg. Getting one-shotted by a charge sniper for ~400 dmg will still kill me sometimes when I'm running 700+ total. Mlt AR from 50 meters, killed me by doing 240 dmg, that's 1/3 of my hp and there were no other reds. Things like this happen all of the time.
