So the Amarr discovered the sleeper tech that allows for the transfer of consciousness at death to a new clone that has been implemented in soldiers.
The Amarr also reverse engineered a stargate and thus "invented" stargates to allow access to the further reaches of the universe.
Mishi IV was the homeworld of the Ni-Kunni which was discovered by the 51st Exploration Corps and assimilated into the Amarr Empire.
Therefore 514 is a shout out to the Amarr and our general awesomeness!

You crazy SOB how did you come up with that? I don't think I ever would have pieced that bit of lore together. |

I'm still convinced that the 51st Exploration Corps has something to do with "514" in DUST's title.
Remember the old intro video of the people discovering the technology for the clones in the older build of DUST - I can guarantee you that they were a part of the 51st Exploration Corps. |

The Amarr are the ones that discovered the sleeper tech that made the clones for terrestrial operations possible. In the old opening video, the people who discovered the tech were likely a part of the corps. Now all we need to do is figure out where the "4" comes from, perhaps a nod to the four empires and how the technology the Amarr found benefited them all. 514 is the number the zombified (aka failed clone respawns) wrote in their own blood across the walls....

Therfore 514 is referencing that the Ni-Kunni are to blame for this game being sh*t. Yeah, way to throw the blame off the Chinese. |

Well according to lore, the races who used the tech had a meeting with the Empress who was discussing why some cloned mercenaries were going the looney route, uttering "514". Before the Empress could elaborate on the possibility, the meeting was attacked and all racial representatives had to vacate the "undisclosed" location immediately.

Oh I understand his significance to some folks and his contribution to horror genre. But his racism, tales of men and women who sought power that ultimately drove them insane, dark creatures from a time long gone-lol that in a blender for me is not pleasing to consume. But that's just me. Not knocking anyone who enjoys his works. |

well, I know he was racist, but I don't think that has anything to do with whether you like his stories or not. ._. His stories aren't for everyone (and a lot of them are incredibly dry reads) but I love his worlds. I like how the horror he creates can be applied to fantasy, modern day, or futuristic settings.
So... uhm. yeah. So the clones that went crazy really did write "514?" I thought someone made that up as a joke. Wow, that's pretty cool. I hope I go crazy. |

Rumors suggest the sleepers are still "alive", uploaded inside an artificial world somewhere. This implies their minds are made completely of code now, and perhaps then number(s) 514 are significant in their artificial world, or are an important part of the coding for their minds.
Maybe a Sleeper mind was inside the recovered generation 1 implant.
Maybe the Sleeper was there, alone, for a long time, and went insane, contaminating all those clones with his insanity.
Maybe a brain can't hold two minds that don't use the same coding, and went insane.
Maybe they lost count of the years alone at 514 and became obsessed with the number.
Maybe 5-1-4 was simply his luggage pass code, who knows... |
