It's a feature in which the majority of the players voted for during closed beta. It's here to stay for the rest of your existence. It's so that players with no lives won't be able to train up to proto level stuff faster than they should. It also increases the game's longevity. |

why does it matter how fast you get to prototype stuff its the same amount of games but meh if it was voted for then its for reasons ill never understand considering the negative effect it has .. just makes me want to shut the game off when i get only 500 sp in a game lol...

It was simply added to the rapidly expanding "backlog". |

Take a look at Eve Online. Dust is based off of the same concept that Eve Online runs on. To always have something to aim for. Players are amazingly fast to finish any content that developers throw at them. There is proof of this in every MMO and FPS out there. But this presents a boat load of problems for every developer in either industry who can't keep up with the pace of consumption of which players have. So to help with making some content always available to strive for, a restriction was placed. In this case, weekly SP caps.

The reasons aren't that hard to understand. And don't say you'll never understand because eventually you will anyways. And when you do reach that point in your life you will realize how right this decision was for all of us.
1. To avoid/mitigate the massive SP gap between players. Without this cap, there will be players ("no lifers" as well call them) who would then have 100 million SP in just a small amount of time while new players (starting with just 500,000 SP) have to face them. The SP caps makes it less painful by limiting the difference.
2. Not everyone can grind SP all day. Some of us have families to tend to, work to go to, food to bring to the table, and other real-life events to deal with. This takes us away from the game and thus distracts us from ever catching up with the "no lifers".
3. SP grinding without restriction will ultimately benefit the veterans far more than it would for the new players trying to catch up.
4. SP grinding without restriction will just make it too easy for us to finish up whichever content we are given (dropsuits, weapons, vehicles, etc.). Imagine being able to train up 100% of everything in several months. There will be nothing left to go for and you ultimately decide to log off anyways because you get bored faster.

It's 1,000 SP max per match to be exact and you get 1.5 times that when fitted with active boosters (if you pass the cap). Since the extra points don't get drawn from the weekly SP pool, that means you get extra SP from thin air when actively playing.
Anyways, if you are this impatient, then Dust is not for you. But that's ok. There is no shame in not being able to like a certain game. I tried Halo and so far I didn't feel comfortable playing it as a dedicated player. It felt too much like a "filler game" as I like to call it. I saw it as the kind of game I would only play if I am absolutely bored of playing Dust and want to take a break from it every now and then before I get back. But that's just me. |
