It was 0300 standard galactic time. We assembled on the deck of the Warbarge prepared to die fighting. One look at the roster though told us all we needed to know. We'd be up against an enemy so obviously overpowered there'd be no hope of winning.
We climbed aboard the MCC and as we reached the planet, ready to deploy we thought about the situation again. Most of us agreed GÇö nah, this is a waste. We commenced to crouch in the corner and wait the battle out. We'd get paid anyway. Let the less experienced go fight. They'll learn soon enough. It's just not worth it.
Maybe the next battle would be a good one. But today? We call ourselves men. Smart men! Perhaps one day technology will change to ensure battles are worth fighting. That dayGǪ is not today.
A tank getting two shotted with a magical fantasy weapon? Grenades that flow in a neverending cycle like milk and honey? Soldiers that dance so well it'd make a little girl in a tutu jealous? Huge turrets that do squat for splash damage?
No, we can't accept those terms. 'Tis a silly planet anyway! On to the next one. Perhaps we can troll with an orbital strike. Nay, why would we use an orbital strike if we're already winning? I know not.
Ah well, the time will come when we will tell these stories to our grandkids. Oh wait, we won't have any grandkids to worry about. So no one will have to know our story of supposed "cowardice." Oddly enough however, we gain skills regardless and get better and better every day. Not that it'll mean much. We're just going to sit the next one out too. Why not?
When faced with insurmountable odds again and again for no real reason why even try? That planet being taken over doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things.

I once fought a PC battle in which my own side would lose the district if we lost more than 7 clones, and the other side was strained for mercpower and could only field a 5-man team.
Cue rolling around the map in an armada of Gunnlogis, terrified of capping points for fear of snipers, and some epic cat & mouse games of AV. |

Okay so Aero, Maiky;, Myself, and Evicer are deployed to Uusanen for combat ops against aggressive Matari ground units in the region, the map was a small outlying settlement complex (Manus Peak). With friendly ground troopers capturing the outlying spires and securing a Null Cannon, our unit moved on Charlie at the base of the hills.
Seeing that the Matari had secured the Consolidation Matrix in which B was housed we decided to take a defensive stance against any ground units that would choose to make pushed on C.
Realising our weapons were vastly more effective than the standard issue Gallentean Assault Rifle we opted to form a Phalanx formation, and deployed 4 Laser Rifle armed troopers against them.
The sheer fire power we laid down was more than enough to level any opposition we faced as enemy ground troopers moved out of cover and into the open.
Umfortunately we realised a little too late that our ground forces at A were outmatched. With flipping between our control and the enemy, we decided to push out on B using the laser to lay down fire at any troops using the high ground against us.
Our lasers literally tore through, snipers, enemy laser riflers, mass drivers, and eventually we managed to get into the rough terrain between C and B which resembles a trench line, and cut off enemies moving out of B towards A, as well as locking down C.....
except what we had not counted on was Massed Mass Driver fire from above, so as we were holding our ground there we were constantly under enemy fire. It cost us come clones but in the end the Matari couldn't do anything to push us back. |

Hmmmm. How about the last PC battle I've fought against SVER.
Both MCCs were at ZERO ticks. We had just managed to rake an objective, putting us to 3/2 :D
One of our GCs said, "Hold your breath!"
And we won. I'll never forget it :') |
