So I was playing the BF4 Beta, mind you I've never played BF before, and let me just say that it is quite impressive for a Beta. My favorite thing to play is the Domination mode: its kind of like a skirmish/team death match which is very close quartered and fast paced. Here you really get to work on your gun game and your reflexes and duke it out with players.
Whats the point of this thread?? Some of you may be asking...Well the thing is, after playing that Beta I realized what makes This game's Ambush so frustrating:
a) The maps are way too big b) The spawn points are all over the place and random and c) Even if the maps are huge there are times when the two teams spawn literally meters away from one another and it's just one huge waste of space!
There was a time, I believe in Open Beta, when the arenas for Ambush were much more condensed and engagements with the enemy were plentiful. Thats what made Chromosome such a treat!! With Uprising, the Maps have become more elaborate and of course, huge. There really is no point in having maps that big in an ambush match. Especially if the idea is a classic team death match.
The other day I stepped into an ambush and while the two teams spawned in the research facility, lil ol' me spawned WAY on the outside. I kid you not when I say that I went the ENTIRE 50 vs 50 Ambush match without seeing ONE enemy. It was quite amusing really, here I was seeing the kill feed in the top right and I'm here trying to figure out where the hell the battle was taking place. Pr0phet never made it to the fight and it was ultimately one big amusing joke.
This needs to change ASAP, Devs.
My suggestions:
1) Give us smaller arenas 2) Have the two teams spawn opposite ends and have players spawn in a "safe zone" that would basically mean spawning them near their friendlies and NOT behind enemy lines where they are likely to get shot in seconds. (Waste of a dropsuit anyone!!!???) and 3) Remove vehicles from Ambush, honestly I've been playing this game an entire year and I dont see the purpose of having a tank, lav, or dropship in a game mode that should be just infantry vs infantry. Vehicle pilots will naturally complain but honestly it'll make Ambush feel less cheap. Seriously, I've seen teams with 2-3 tanks on the field plowing through infantry as if they were bugs on a windshield. That's not fun, it's frustrating and sometimes expensive!!
So that's pretty much my say on the matter, I'm sure this has been said but clearly nothing has been done about it. What are some of your thoughts Mercs? Please give positive feedback for that is ultimately what CCP is looking for when trying to improve this game.

Nothing sucks more than spawning in ambush.. And the first thing you see are three ARs pointed at your face. |

I'm giving this a bump because I'd really like a Dev to respond to this. I sincerely think that if Ambush is meant to be Team Death Match then the maps need to be more about CQC as opposed to wide open engagements that feel very unbalanced and a waste of all that space. these maps are far too big for 16 vs 16 combat! |

I am with you near 100%, here is the only deviation I have.
Reinstate Ambush OMS and allow vehicles there and slightly larger map sizes. Vehicles are definately fun to have in a deathmatch type scenario as long as there is a supply depot around in order to not waste 100% of the first 16 clones coming in expecting a infantry slugging match. Plus vehicles will need the supply depots come 1.7.

I can tolerate vehicles in ambush OMS precisely for the reason you've stated. It makes sense to have vehicles in OMS because OMS is larger, has more clones, and has installations. but as for regular Ambush with 50 vs 50 clones I just cannot tolerate it anymore. |

I agree with this except for the vehicle thing. If a stupid blueberry wants to keep calling in vehicles for me to blow up thats ok. Hey I don't even mind bagging a tank or two, but yes the maps do need to be smaller like they were before uprising and the spawing thing is a bit of an issue too. |

Im talking about regular infantry. As i said before. Ive been in matches that were unwinable because the enemy had 3-4 tanks on the field during a 50 vs 50 ambush...thats ridiculous and extremely OP. Matches arent fun if you have alll that firepower on the other side |

I'm 95% sure ambush will never change, and if it does it will be the littlest of changes just to get people to shut up. I hate tanks in ambush, I don't mind lavs and dropships because well they don't do the slaying that tanks do, plus my av nades will take out any lav and derpship trying to squish me...
I die alot AND have fun... Who knew?
