i played bf heroes, and in that game many of the extremely good weapons were only available by purchase, with no real in game equivalents. the best guns in the game were buyable day 1 with cash, and they weren't even achievable normally. that **** was p2w as **** |

Would be great if we could get him to publicly disavow such practices so that if/when Dust does turn P2W we can poop all over this game and leave in droves. |

P2W would be even worse in a game like Dust, being a persistent 'mmo'. If a game like CoD had P2W practices then it really only makes it annoying and cheap.
But if for instance, WoW had a PVP server where you could buy top tier PVP gear, it would make the whole game a joke. |

To an extent. And to some extent the "open market" might equalize or minimize the negative effects of "Pay to win" but perhaps not entirely. |

It would be interesting if you could make districts produce weapons instead of clones...
Or vehicles
or equipment
Just something else besides clones! |

In the sense that clones = money. and money = vehicles, equiptment, or weapons.
They kind of already do.
So having districts which did those things would be limiting the current status (however this might still be interesting or fun) |

"It's I'm the road map" - someone in ccp at some point, somewhere.
Also this community will react strongly, possibly violently if a shift to p2w happens. ... remember the 'cavity' m2 contact grenades fiasco?
Besides rouge still has to answer to hilmar.

Boosters are kinda P2W but only up to a certain point. Because past 7-10m SP you can have a solid character long as you didn't spend it all wrong.
Not being able to respec makes this worse for players with less SP, but having an AUR item that lets you grind to unallocate SP (like an active booster) would kind of fix that issue. Also if and when these items go on the player market tradeable for ISK.
But anything more than that is heavy creep into some serious P2W nonsense.

I think you've just made me realize why skill spikes and skill clusters are DOA.... because they entirely bypass sp itself, but are aurum only. Sounds like p2w to me. Wonder if they'll come out with a reward version of them some day. |

as with mintchip, I'm willing to let him prove himself. personally I'd think it would be liberating to not have to use a pay to win model(as always i blame EA). if they stray from the path then we will simply put them back on it. if we scream load enough they will hear us and take measures to fix it. CCP doesn't want a pay to win game they've said as much and I believe they wont go back on their word, at least on this... |

I think DUST has the best balance for generating revenue of any FTP game I've ever heard of. I don't foresee CCP Rouge messing with it.
What DUST needs for revenue is a fantastic story-based interactive gameplay tutorial (think of the first Portal game or the original Halo) that immediately grabs the first time player's attention and shows them how amazing DUST gameplay is right off the bat. It needs to fill in the missing content discussed at fanfest. It needs to work out the remaining performance/gameplay issues (which CCP has really done an excellent job with since Uprising's launch). It needs significantly improved link to EVE (i.e. combined markets), and it needs to transition onto a different platform.
If CCP can pull all of this off in the next 12-18 months, I think DUST will be in a fantastic place and ready to market hard to the general public. When this happens the existing revenue model should make DUST highly profitable. I think it's possible, but Shanghai is going to have to work harder than they ever have in their lives to make it happen. |
