Victories, and consistent and loyal service of an empire over one's mercenary career should be recognized by the respective empire, and be rewarded with medals. It makes sense that they would incentivize loyalty from skilled mercenaries so they don't end up working for the enemy. Medals should come with ISK prizes, and specially colored faction gear. Here is a basic idea of how rewards can work:
Win 25 battles for a faction: win an (imperial, republic, federal, or state) Medal of Commendation + 1 million ISK + 20 STD faction dropsuits and weapons.
Win 100 battles for a faction: win an (imperial, republic, federal, or state) Medal of Victory + 5 million ISK + 20 STD specially colored faction dropsuits and weapons.
Win 250 battles for a faction: win an (imperial, republic, federal, or state) Medal of Service + 15 million ISK + 20 ADV specially colored faction dropsuits and weapons.
Win 500 battles for a faction: win an (imperial, republic, federal, or state) Medal of Honorable Service + 20 million ISK + 30 ADV specially colored faction dropsuits and weapons.
Win 1000 battles for a faction: win an (imperial, republic, federal, or state) Medal of Distinguished Lifetime Honorable Service + 50 million ISK + 50 PRO specially colored faction dropsuits and weapons.
The medals should be displayed on one's public character information, and character sheet. It would also be nice to have them hanging from a wall in the merc quarters. |

I do like these kinds of long-term objectives with combined ISK/gear payout. Also it doesn't chain you to one particular faction which makes sense if you are a mercenary. Now if they only had a little trophy/medal display cabinet in your merc quarters. :P |

Whilst I agree there should be more of a personal incentive for FW, I feel it should come in the form of loyalty points and loyalty point stores. For those unfamiliar with this type of system, here's how it works:
Fight in FW > Gain LP based on match outcome and personal performance > Spend LP on sweet faction gear with special faction colours.
This means that there is no end to the limit of gear you can get from FW and so you're not afraid to actually use that gear. No one would really want to use them if they had limited numbers, as you proposed, thus making them kinda pointless. We've seen it already with the special suits handed out.
Though, the medals is a pretty awesome idea. :P |

Getting medals, displaying the medals in character sheet, and getting paid would be awesome. A LP system like Melchiah ARANeAE said would be a better way to give the other rewards. |

Its a good start, but needs more, maybe certain things for x kills or x wp
and some sort of real repeatable goal maybe every 10 1 std suit and weapon |

I suggested this myself on behalf of Evicer, who doesnt post here, this is what I would like to see. I would like to let players know that I have fought in well over 1000 FW matches in my time serving the Empire.

Like the idea a lot, personally I would start at 50 or 100 battles. It would be nice to reward not just battle wins but also the consistency for signing up for a specific faction repeatedly. I guess CCP might get to that through faction standings at some point.

 How about factions reward you also with a class "A" suit for displaying medals and ranks achieved in Faction Warfare? Can be tied to Faction standing or say a 1000 consecutive battles fought for a single faction (really should have a high threshold, don't you think?)
Could go hand in hand with your suggestion on character information. And it sure would make strutting around the warbarge pre-battle more fun.
