Soon BPO's will be pulled from the in-game market and only a few will be available via the Playstation Market in whatever packs CCP decides to build.
One might think that CCP just wants to generate more ISK sales or force people to buy large packs to get one or two items they really want.
On the other hand we have IWS bursting at the seams wishing he could tell us something that his NDA forbids. That certainly suggests more is going on than simply encouraging more ISK sales.
I recall some verbiage about this facilitating merging of the EVE and DUST economies, and that in turn brings up the point of manufacturing.
So could that mean anyone holding a BPO could start manufacturing copies to be sold on a future market? Are these BPO's going to net us some real ISK income beyond allowing us free use of the item?
What's going on that could have IWS so excited? What do you think? |

In before speculation shutdown?
I saw a post (I don't recall who it was) talking about suit and weapon variants with the idea that it would be a good reason to get rid of BPO availability. |

The thing is they are announcing the end of most BPOs, but not tellings us why.
That could be for some boring pedestrian reason that they didn't feel the need to announce, but when someone starts singing "I've got a secret, I've got a secret!" one is inclined to think otherwise.
So I'm merely wondering what such a secret could be. |

Outside NDA walls I do have opinions I am still entitled to.
Overall for the long health term of the game I am glad to see BPOs going away entirely. Things were confusing as hell, allowed metagaming to which even myself has abused the crap out of and it sorta does undermine the game a bit similar to the undermining of killing a guy in any other shooter.
The only BPOs that should be made are starter fits just in case you go full broke and suck that bad. |

I think the main reason for pulling BPOs is that while it encourages AUR sales, it is doing more harm then good by further promoting the isk surplus we have, and the devs have already stated that they need more isk sinks to keep things under control. |

Let us buy some AUR with increments of 1,000,000 isk? I'll let CCP "tune" the ratio of one to the other. |

Militia items are pretty darn near disposable as they are. Could they really be that destabilizing?
I suppose they do give one a sense of not caring about losing a clone. That has a greater effect than a little ISK in the market. |

Meanwhile, we few that spilled the coin for some BPOs from the start are rewarded for spending the Aurum while the game is in it's infancy. I like it.
I also like the sound of getting space rich a few years from now by selling off copies of my Toxin BPOs, Dragonfly Assault Suits, and Raven C-1s. Ah, the life of an arms dealer. |

The last thing i recall hearing from CCP on the subject of manufacturing of DUST gear was that it would be done only EVE-side. I remember it because I violently dislike like it, but that's a fight for another day.
The way manufacturing works in EVE, the player doing the manufacturing needs to have possession of the BPO. If that's still the case, what what will it mean after market integration for a merc to possess a BPO? An npc mechanic like we have now? Dunno, but ultimately it needs to be in the hands of the players.
True Grit has expressed the desire to have districts provide a revenue stream other than clones, and on top of that the clone market was meant as much(or more) for EVE than for DUST. But that market won't exist until economic integration. If one accepts the hypothesis that market integration won't happen for a while, then the revenue stream from districts has to come from sales to mercs. This implies we will be getting an internal market at some point in the context of a PC iteration. To add plausibility, there has been some concern expressed by devs re the isk holdings of DUST mercs and corps. This would make a market a sooner-rather-than later priority.
Anyway, these wild speculations are already a tower of cards and we shouldn't be wasting time on the forums when it is far better spent killing Ammarians.

In EVE BPO units allow production of an item indefinitely, provided you have the materials! If EVE pilots can manufacture DUST items on an intergrated market, or even DUST mercs buy resources and manufacture them themselves BPO units will be invaluable, especially considering the amount of resources per suit will be rather small! |

LOL
You all really think you are going to make billions of ISK. of the BPO's we have ?
Think again.
Almost all the BPO's we have are millitia, and a very few are standard BPO's. A lot of players have BPO's, and will flod the marked, prices will drop drastic, and there WILL be a material cost to craft an item to, Millitia and standard gear will be worth NOTHING...
Players will never use that low lvl gear as soon as they can use better stuff. |

You are right there is no reward to killing me in my freebie suit other than knocking one clone off the clone counter. Killing me in my 0 isk suits (yes i have multiple) does nothing to hurt me and every single person I kill with them makes me laugh because they risked way more than I ever will in a pub match. |

Give it a few more years when the population booms while only an increasingly smaller number of players have ownership of a bpo.
You are correct that at first the prices will drop with players flooding the market. But as the population catches up and grows, the demand will grow. Besides, these bpo items are invaluable despite the fact that they are only militia level. Hell I still fit a militia bpo module on my proto suits. |
