Ok so I have a question about Dust and its life span on the ps3, I have heard the devs say that the ps3 still has a good amount of life left on it and that they still wanted to keep dust on there until the ps3 is no longer viable (or something to that extent). So my question is, what is every ones best bet on how long that will be?
Now I don't ask this so I will have a reason to throw myself onto the floor into a childish fit of rage complaining "Y DeRE b nO PS4" or anything like that, its because I consider myself to be somewhat of a connoisseur in spending money on stupid pointless krap. What I mean is I would like to buy me a spiffy custom controller with a fully sick paint job all decked out, you know something to impress the ladies with but with the ps4 around the corner I don't wanna buy one if it isn't gunna be used for that long.
So, you guys reckon we will be here for a while? Is it worth it? Do I drop the dosh to get all the babes? Keep in mind I understand its a total waste of money but that's not an issue, the issue is whether or not it will get a flogging before Dust is off the ps3. |

Dust514 will be on the PS3 for at least another year. The amount of work needed to "port" over to PS4 is pretty immense since they are totally different hardware.
I'm sure Sony will have some kind of migration software developers kit, but it will be down to the engine developers (Unreal for example) to provide similar. If these don't exist then you have to assume much of what is being developed on the PS3 will need to be created again in a PS4 environment..
Then there is the backwards compatibility issue, there has to be a grace period for PS3 users to transfer to PS4 so CCP will have to support both hardware. This may mean the PS4 is hobbled because the "stuff" needs to work on inferior hardware as well...

I'd say they will support the PS3 version as long as there is a reasonable amount of players. Though, nobody knows if player numbers will drop dramatically and stay low once the PS4 is released or if people will be coming back.
My guess is, and I don't have any evidence whatsoever to support that claim, that CCP will announce a PS4 (and possibly a PC version) at Fanfest 2014 and then we might see a PS4 (PC) release maybe in late 2014.
But even then CCP certainly won't just drop the PS3 version altogether. I'm expecting the end of the DUST514 PS3 version maybe 1.5 - 2 years from now. At least if they don't run into too much trouble dealing with limited resources the PS3 provides.
Saying that, I absolutely expect PS4 (and PC) versions of the game to look significantly better (higher display and texture resolutions, higher fps, better effects, etc.), but at the same time I'm certain PS3 and PS4 players will be able to play against each other. |

When new PS4 consoles arrive at homesteads there is no way their older siblings will be forced on to the streets... Instead they will be living side by side infront of the same tube...
My PS3 is the first console i bought. I plan to buy PS4 in some distant time and i for sure will not dump my PS3 to make room. I would rather dump my old VCR/DVD hybride instead The same must be for PS One or PS2. I bet they are still alive and used around.
My point is that DUST will stay on PS3 for longer than one year. It must get stable, mature and more or less "complete" right there where it already runs. When this is achieved we may expect porting to PS4.

I was thinking that people say that the PS4 has more computer type hardware in it than PS3. CCP knows that type of stuff better than current PS3 hardware, so they're are still learning.
I think once they get a handle on this console stuff, it would be easier for them to port it over to PS4...
So no matter what they say, this is still beta for that move.....
probably about a year...so all the kinks get knocked out of the PS4 and all the talk of those other shooters die down.... |

I think that sony is making enough good decision in the ps4 release that dust will roll over to the carbon engine on ps4. |

Do you ever hear about a "figure of speech"?
I just saying, that is not need to get a PS4 immediately... most games are going to come out in both the PS3 and PS4 for few years. You can just wait for a while if you want too. |
