after spending the morning playing the BF4 beta i have to say it game me a fresh perspective of things.
This game does have flaws, but there are alot of things it gets right.
- dieing matters, no running into the meat grinder and not feeling the hurt
- full customisable builds. being able to throw ammo on almost any class or put remote explosives on your favorite suit really does make a difference. Not to mention to extreme variety in the suit builds you can have, a single suit class can have amazing variety of what you can acomplish with it.
- The financial aspect is probably the biggest thing this game has going for it, were not just fighting, were spending ISK and destroying the ISK of our oponents, this makes every kill so much more satisfying and probably explains why tanks are such huge targets (everyone loves destroying 500k-1mil isk of your oponent knowing he just took a big hit to his wallet)
they should probably try to focus on the finance a little more, i think ISK lost/Destroyed ratio is probably one of the most important statistics in this game and we dont have acess to it. showing how much each team lost in battle will re-define what it means to win a match and give PC wars alot more meaning as two forces start to gage whos winning by whos losing the most isk.
- the strafe shooter nature of the game makes each engagement last longer, people dont just get shot and fall over, they have time to react and it really DOES add alot to the "in the moment" combat
Dust has all the things of your standard AAA shooter but playing the gold standard leaves me feeling like theres something missing. Sure vehicle combat is in a bad place and doesnt look to be getting better, and there are a few areas of imbalance that are messing with the metagame, but there are some things that dust just does right.
having the ISK economy and the ability to have fully customisable suits and builds set dust apart, and once the groundwork is settled and DUST514 is out of beta i think it will stand toe to toe with the big boys |

Yes i agree with all the points you've made.
Also that this game has over battlefield 4 is that its updates can be pushed back. |

I'm guessing it will be 3-5 years and a new platform before we see destructible environments in Dust. |

Was watching my brother play black ops 2 this afternoon. He dropped people in seconds, and the favor was returned in kind. This game does have something going for it, but that quick style of gameplay can be rather enjoyable as well. |

the destrouctable environments in BF4 are more scripted then dynamic.
certain conditions are met and then a premade animation happens.
most of the destruction doesnt have any meaning, it doesnt effect the game and it really doesnt provide any benifits.
there are a few places where that statement isnt true, but in those particular places its a scripted action...
its a solid game, its just not DUST |

Dust / CCP said it is no longer beta... So you comparing a beta game to a non-beta game.

I agree. This really does have the potential can become the best FPS ever made (even without destructible environments). I hope CCP can get their s*it together before it hits the point of no-return. |

The community has agreed that this game is still beta, despite whatever the DEVs tell you.
the fact that the BF4 beta feels more polished then DUST kinda drives that point home. although the "Beta" of BF4 is more about testing server stability and catching unforseen last minuite bugs then actual testing (hey actually have in house testing to eliminate most bugs BEFORE it ships :P)
they really are two different types of game, uncompairable. good for different reasons and good at different things.
they may both be FPS, but the combat feels VERY different |

agree with most people here
BF4 is a great game, personally i dont like destructible environments but the scripted nature in BF4 seems like a step back from Bad Company 2
most importantly BF4 is EA........ so yeah i will give it some play time (beta only) but it wont replace dust, another FPS might do in the future but it wont be BF4 |

Yea I used to be a huge battlefield fan, but every new edition brings down the scale of destruction and makes it seem for "scripted" |

I think Bad Company 2 did it the best for simple and effective destruction.
BF3 upped the animation in destruction, but dialed(spelling right?) back the scale. I also agree about the scipted nature of destruction.
BF4 may not have all the selling points as DUST, but it WILL sell and it WILL hurt DUST for one simple reason. BF4 is fun! Sure most of the destruction is scripted, and you die to 3-4 bullets in CQC, but the game is fun. Infantry war fare ranging from explosives finatics down to the rifle marksmans. Vehicular battle is ORGASMIC!!!!! Tanks, jets, boats, choppers, jeeps, planes, and other stuffs I haven't used :D Big maps with lotsa players!!!!! Countless ways to win, kill, survive, and well.... DIE!
Loads of weapons. Loads of gadgets. Loads of jizztastic MAYHEM!!!!!!
But umm seriously though, BF4 is pretty much a finished product excluding expansions. DUST has potential to become an ever changing immersive, entertaining, and captivating game that could one day trump the BF series, C.O.D. series, Planetside series, and other FPS out in today's market. Sadly that can and most likely will take years....
I'm jumping ship when my ps4 comes home, and I'll be found on BF4. I'll check in periodically though it if there's still anything to check into. |

I just wish they focused non stop on the core game mechanic's in Open and closed beta... They are just realizing that it's a bad idea to go forward with content without it.Then in Term's of hit detection done lazy...
Hit Detection should of brought Accuracy rating's to merc's. And feed back directly to CCP how well they did.
Hit box's registering from hitting their baby finger to a shot in their heart, and the damage value differences of hitting non lethal area's....
Instead CCP just put an AA band aid on hit detection. and said it was fixed. This lazy half fast work is what get's them in trouble. |
