Planets have security status values that don't effect Dust players. Its just a number with no meaning to us.
I propose making security status relevant in Dust by introducing random events that have a probability of occurring based on the security status of the planet. High security would have a low chance of a random event occurring while low security would have a high chance of a random event.
Example of random events:
- random npc orbitals
- rouge drones spawning on the map
- an attacking pirate ship that would behave much like a boss monster
What do you guys think? Would this be cool or lame? Is it even possible to pull this off from a technical standpoint? |

Interesting idea, but I don't see those events as being very new-player friendly, which is already a concern with this game. The security status is just to let you know where you are in the EVE world. |

I think it should affect PC, not the vanilla instant battles. I think the rogue drone attacks will definitely be implemented, friend |

Great idea, I would also think that if we ever do get into 0.0 space or -1 space that friendly fire could become active automatically without any warning or need to be in a pc battle. |

How's this as an alternative:
Have the Security Status reflect the Suit Level, and payout, of the match.
Example:
High Sec (Green Numbers): Free Fits/Militia/Standard Suits only. Lowest payout.
Low Sec (Orange Numbers): Free Fits/Militia/Standard/Advanced Suits only.
Null Sec (Red Numbers): Open to all Dropsuits. Highest payout.
This would have the effect of easing new players into the game after they leave the Battle Academy, as well as prevent Proto Stomping for players that aren't prepared for it. It would also give newer players something to "Level Into", as well as give older players the higher payouts that they have been asking for.
Allowing players to choose their Security Status as part of the Matchmaking process (like we do with Faction War Contracts) would also give Recruiters (and older players who feel so inclined) the ability to enter High Sec space to help train, and recruit the new players.
Security Status can then have meaning to Dust Players in a way that is both New Player, and Vet, friendly. |

Quoted for excellence. This idea deserves its own thread.

Actually a really good idea! I think this system would be good for the game. I'm all for anything that helps new players entering the game, especially when it doesn't hurt the experience for more seasoned players

This thread points to one of my favorite things about EvE and one of the least innovative things about Dust 514 at the same time... THE FEAR. If you've ever played EvE, you've experienced the sudden rise in heart rate when falling out of warp to realize that you've just landed in a hot mess of a challenge (or probably certain death). Hopefully you've also experienced the extreme elation of overcoming a mob of hostility to emerge victorious. Dust 514 accomplishes the latter of these quite well (which is no small feat) but the former is much more powerful in EvE. I believe this is because of the feeling of continuity in EvE as you fly around and experience the flow of your surroundings.
Obviously, FPS players don't want to deal with 20 warp gates to get to a battle (who does?) but a REAL opportunity of a game universe like New Eden is to let us be truly immersed. I would love to see Dust get to the point where the player could get the feeling that they may have strayed a bit to far from safety, and need to slowly back out of the system and head for friendly space.
The "least innovative thing" about Dust 514 that I mentioned earlier is the continuation of a solely "ready, set, go" FPS. There will always be the need for instant battles and if you're looking for steady contracts and a familiar clone bay to wake up to, head to your nearest hub and grind away! But if you're looking for a bit more adventure, hop a micro-shuttle or ragged out merc jump clone to a more peripheral system and see what kind of trouble you can into (and out of). There should be a more openworld sandbox that can be explored where you can ally with friendlies, but don't ever really know who might shoot you... NOW THAT'S NEW EDEN! |

I thought of using the security status to limit pubstomps & balance matchmaking by applying a penalty for running proto in a pub match. Maybe something like:
High Sec (pub) - Loose your suit and/or get fined isk earned for the match at 1.5 percent. Low Sec (FW) - Loose your suit, unless 70 percent of players (both teams) run similar gear. Null Sec (FW, PC) - No penalty. Play at your own risk.
This would work best if there were more options available for pub matches, like selecting max gear levels in battle finder. Then you could exempt any matches set for proto gear from the penalty. |

Total meta level should be the barrier for entry, not suit type, as then everyone will just roll with tanked-out logis due to their high CPU/PG, allowing full proto modules or a proto weapon in low sec space.
Include equipment, weapons and mods to that example. Nice idea +1
Cheer up a bit will you
