A thread in which I compare Tibus Heth to the GÇ£H,GÇ¥ leader of the Not Sees. This will be the only time that I avoid the filter. From now on, I will appropriately call them ****** and the ***** or the **** party.
I mean, seriously, look at that ****. Born in a country that was not the one that he was most emotionally attached to (Austria, Gallente Federation), culturally identified with another one (Germany, Caldari State) and eventually joined the military of that country (Germany, Caldari State). A bit of divergence, but even here there are similarities. ****** went on to fight in a war (WWI) which ended up with the humiliation on the national stage of the country that he just threw his lot in with (in Heth's version, the Caldari State was defeated and its capital, Caldari Prime, was taken by the Gallente Federation long before he joined the military). They both go on to stage an attempted coup of a minor province (the Beer Hall Putsch in Bavaria, the Caldari Constructions Coup in ?????) where ****** is unsuccessful, while Heth successfully took over CC. Through manipulative speeches and support from the masses (which he gets because of the extreme poverty and lack of direction that the people feel, not to mention repressed nationalism (not to mention the support of the People in High Places Who Knew What Was Going Down)), they eventually take control of the entire state (Germany, Caldari State) and use their newfound dictatorial powers to drive their nations into a war with the country that defeated their own in the previous (world, galactic/empirical) war. Other major nations (Amarr, Minmatar) get involved, too.
Also, racism! Racism is a thing that happens. IGÇÖve read up to the part where Tibus is exploring the office of the former CEO of Caldari Constructions, and he finds a Gallentean prostitute swimming in a floating pool (donGÇÖt ask, IGÇÖd say physics, but itGÇÖs more like magycks) and drowns her until she had a few seconds left of her life and threw her against the floor because he hated Gallenteans. It was actually this part that inspired me to write this. Clever. Clever, Tony Gonzales.
Really enjoying the book so far. IGÇÖm not going to write a review or anything, but I will give it a glowing endorsement. I tried reading Templar One and my mind went GÇ£?????????GÇ¥ This novel really helps me understand exactly whatGÇÖs happened in that one. I think that IGÇÖll reread Templar One once I finish this one.
May I just mention that the amount of leaders who I respect in the beginning and whose sanity goes down the drain later on is absolutely ******* ridiculous? Captain Walker, from Spec Ops the Line. The Governor, from the Walking Dead. Rick Grimes, also the Walking Dead. Tibus Heth, obviously from EVE Online. IGÇÖll have to look this up on TV Tropes. |

Their names both start with the letter "H." Heth has a burning hatred for anyone who is of Gallentean ethnicity (he drowned a woman in the pool that she was swimming in to within an inch of her life and then smashed her skull against the floor because she was Gallente). Heth started out with a small coup which led to bigger things. "Bigger things" came along to him because he stirred up patriotic pride and racial hatred that had gone on smouldering within the hearts of Caldari citizens. |

You'd definitely like it considering it mainly deals with the Amarr. I need to read empyrean age or something because I feel like there's a ton of stuff that seemed insignificant but probably aren't.
I don't mind being Amarr born but minmatar supportive after some reading now. |

As far as I've gotten into the book (gotten past the first hundred or so pages), it seems to be a pretty balanced look at the four races. However, you do get a look at characters like Gable, Vince, Tea, and Korvin Lear before the events of Templar one. Since it takes place before T1, it really helped my understanding of what happened there. |
