I am working on my B.S. in Psychology with a focus on virtual environments. As we learn more about the brain and the interactions it has with video games we can learn to design better environments. Something that I find very important is data collection. If CCP had a survey we could take that collected our opinions about elements in the game, like ratings about how strong the assault rifle is, they can compare our average response as a community to the statistics labeling how many deaths the AR has and see if it's true that it is over powered or not. If the community feels it is over powered, but it has a low proportion of deaths, then there must be another element influencing the communities opinion, For example, maybe the number of players who use one is high, and thus people interact with one often. The reason behind a high number of ARs could be the high SP required to diversify into other fields of specialty.
The point of this post is to get us all thinking how we can provide the right information to CCP most frequently . By increasing the knowledge they have accessible, they can make better more efficient changes which will result in balanced play.
Feel free to add on to this idea, but please DO NOT ADD comments about game balance, OP opinions, or technical design flaws within the game as they are not the scope of this post. I used the mentioned examples above only to clarify the idea of a more consumer based method for initializing change.
CCP, please shed light on what you do to make choices about balance and technical design. I think knowing why you make your choices will help us back the hard road to progress. |

B.S. is proper.

I think it depends on the exact school you graduate from, like College of Liberal Arts, or College of Engineering, and might even depend upon tradition of your school. U of MN uses B. S. in CLA. |

B.S. means Bachelor of Science and is the correct acronym. I know this as I have one as well. |

I think CCP has a thorough understanding of psychology. They make their games addictive through repetition and reward. The Pavlovian response.
Then they sell the game on promises of non-existent features to entice customers to pay and play then they fail to deliver even a quarter of what they promise, claiming it's the vision that they are marketing. You should pay them on the merit of that vision. |

alot of it boils down to qwakery and medication nowadays.
a B.S. in psychology qualifies you to be a glorified pharmacy tech. just giving out subscriptions with a trial and error aproch.
psychology is slowly being replaced by neuroscience... i would change majors if you dont want to end up a guidance counselor |

Thanks for the support! I agree, I am very excited to start seeing how certain stimuli (game environments) impact how we directly feel and act. In addition, we could engineer experiences very specifically to a player's benefit. I feel people stay not because they are addicted, but because they really enjoy it.
How can we understand more about building the best virtual platform possible?
By optimizing an environment (the whole game) to meet this question, the game will by default be more lucrative. Not because it has repetitious and addictive rewarding properties, but because it incorporates our entire psychology and sense of self satisfaction. |
