Most of the items on the market is overpriced and coupled with the bad balance of these weapons, favoritism towards certain weapons are created. For Exmaple, the full auto AR is simply the best, it is currently "OP" as most are exclaiming. What is not arbitually claimed, but is true fact, is the other variants of the AR are not as effective as the full auto version. Dispite the full auto ARs superiority, it is the cheapest. The best weapon is the cheapest, and the worst weapons (breach AR, burst and tac) are more expensive? Why would you pay more for a less effective weapon? Dunno, but we dont. No one uses the breech, the allotech is a rarity and is slightly less so. Bad balance+bad pricing=favoritism. So re-evaluate the prices according to balance and we will see some more variation on the battlefeild.
Other examples of this promblem are the scrambler pistols, mass drivers, HMG's, SMGs and shotguns. The standard, cheapest version of these weapons are better and cheaper than some or all of the other variants it has to offer. We want variety on the battlefield marketing team, make running a lower quality piece of gear due to game balance more affordable |

The issue is that the variats of the AR other than full auto are very niche weapons. The TAC is a mid range sniper rifle; the burst is good for medium skill players working toward toward the Breach or TAC so players grow out of it easily. The breach is a more high skill weapon best used in open areas; the full auto AR is best for close quarters.
Honestly, I think you don't see the variants, not because of effectiveness, but because of skill level and combat conditions don't call for them to be used.
That said, and arugment can be made for pricing either way. If the goal is to encourage use of other variants, then yes the full auto AR needs to be more expensive. That said however, normal concepts would say the more specialized variants should be more expensive.
I tend to agree with you, however, as the Dust market is not a typical market - right now prices are set CCP so I think your proposal has merit.
now, when we get a player market, this all goes out the window. It will really depend on crafting costs and sellers markets as players will derive their own price. The price of the full auto AR could be impacted in either way - expensive because of demand or cheap because of high supply. (On a side note, this is why we don't have a player driven market yet - balancing supply and demand while considering how easy it is to get the construction material and setting the amount that is "salvaged" or whatever other mechanic they come up with).
Oh and because I was so dang serious here...

Add more bundles (a BPO pack with no added AUR or boosters for example), drop the price on boosters. Decals, decals everywhere. Simple camouflage patterns on top of already existing skins is just sad. Add weekly sales with bi-weekly bundle packs. Personal customizable quarters, chicks dig a nice bachelor pad even if the person is still a nerdy virgin. Add player market and you'll see people buy AUR to sell for ISK.
CCP's marketing is stale, simple as that. Hopefully the changes to the market in 1.5 will change things. |
