I know this has been stated over and over again but collision damage for vehicles needs to be tweeked a lot. How a 1800 total HP dropships can take out a 4100 total HP dropship by tapping it is bullshit, so is loosing all shields going over a bump in a tank or taking 10,000 damage lightly brushing a building in a dropship. Seriously CCP vehicle pilots need to deal with OP AV and crappy collision damage. |

dropships need a collision avoidance system much like what's in eve.
something on the lines of this might save a few dropships from needless deaths.
any vehicle or structure that enters a set radius while in flight, top, sides, rear of the vehicle automatically forces to vehicle to veer off in the opposite direction proportionately to the speed in which it is approaching that object.
rear - vehicle moves forward and slightly up.
side (hover) - vehicle strafes sideways and slightly up in the same direction the object is moving. side (moving) - vehicle turns sharply and slightly up turning in the same direction the object is moving.
top (hover) - the vehicle will dive sharply and turn in a random direction leveling out to a hover if no other input is made. hopefully insuring you don't avoid a top hit just to smash into the ground. top (moving) - the vehicle will dive and level out then continue to move in the direction you are going.
as for tanks i don't think they should get it although an lav should not be able to damage one at all. i once saw a tank hit a rock. break off all its running wheel arms, split the turret ring poping the turret off its mounting and splitting the hull almost in half once. although these tanks have shields so they should just get a straight up no environment collision damage as long as they have sheilds |

you can drive down a road and take collision damage from flat ground in a tank though, its annoying. |

Collision damage is actually so potent it can be used as a griefing tactic.
I had a game yesterday where someone on our team in a LLAV would ram and destroy vehicles on our own team just by colliding with them. I had two cheap LAV go up in flames to this.
Getting 2 shot by a LLAV on my own team... not cool
Honestly, between things like that, going over a bump and losing your shields, touching an enemy vehicle and exploding it just feels like vehicles are death traps. As opposed to, you know, combat certified armored vehicles designed to be super rugged. |
