I've been holding off for a while because I've been skilling up into some other things, but are they worth taking up a low slot?
Currently as a logi, the best I could do is skill to level 5 dampening and then use a complex dampener to lower my profile below advanced scanners (I'm not too worried about trying to hide from proto...)
I just want to know who thinks they actually increase survivability more than say a complex armor repairer or plate. Also, if you do use them to counter advanced scanning, how often do you run into someone that can still scan you (i.e. someone using a proto scanner)? Lastly, do you use the dampening for offense or defense? As in, do you lower your profile to hide from enemies to have them run into you, or do you use it to sneak up on the opponents themselves?
I only have advanced scanners unlocked because it's only about 1 in 3 matches that I run into a single player who I'm not able to scan...and that person usually ends up being a scout. |

I tried to use them, but I prefer damage mods & armor for my slots now....now I put them on the suits I trying to burn through to get rid of the ones I bought.... |

They're only really useful if you want to get a scout suit below 15db so it can never be scanned. But then again, who runs the 15db active scanner? |

Until the recent announcement about incoming changes, I have been using militia dampeners, because a few more points of armor generally won't save my logi from becoming hamburger.
I think with scanning bonuses coming, though, that there is going to be a huge upsurge in scanning--so figure out how to get your profile below 36 (30, really, I think) in order to be safe from most of the bad guys.
I only have one point in my dampening, becauseI was only worried about basic scanning--it was great to see the scan failed message. Ah well, time to adapt. I think most folks will be using the advanced models now. |

I use complex dampeners on a minmatar assault fit, and they are crucial for getting close enough to use a shotgun. The base level 5 skill will put a medium suit just under scan of standard scanners, which is definetly something to note. using one will get under all advanced, and two will put you just slightly under prototype, but not the focused one.
You wont always need two, or even one, but having fits to counter what the enemy squad is hitting you with is worth it for a fit that relies on flanking. On my longer range fits, being scanned is far less detrimental so i rarely have dampeners on them.
I'd also like to point out that while you cant get below focused scanners with two, and more would be seriously compromising most suit loadouts, squads that use focused scanners are almost always too aware as a cohesive group to flank and get much done anyway, so it hasnt ever been a concern for me. |

I have an all-purpose skirmish fit that is running short on PG. For a good weapon, I stick a PG extender on, but most of the time I use a profile dampener. You never really know if the scan-prevented was adv or not. But the reasonable confidence that you won't be seen wherever you go is bloody brilliant. Combine it with a scanner of your own, and REs, and you have an amazing ninja fitting. |

Thanks for the people that actually had feedback on this.
I'm most likely going into dampeners now. The main reason being that while they might not be needed in every situation, if I'm going up against a squad using a scanner, it would be nice to run undetected while only having to take up one low slot instead of two.
I'm still not sure how many people actually run proto scanners, but we'll see I guess. |

I use advance at it does very well. I put one in my low slot and can sneak up on unsuspecting targets, get the first shot in and unless some weird dust physics kicks in you should win. |

I got really excited about how my med suit would be invisible to standard level scanner if I max out dampening. But then I realized that anyone that thinks that running a standard grade scanner, is a good idea, is unlikely to be a threat in the first place. |

Well you'd be at 35 percent, so you would be able to maybe avoid advanced scanners.
Sooooooo...yes? |
