There is no darkness in this game. Even the night time element is not enough, as the ground is magically illuminated by either a super moon or a highly polluted atmosphere + Light pollution.
Regardless, as a scout, there is something about a lack of dark, or a presence of lighting that really bothers me. Throughout time, military stealth operations have taken place under the cover of night. Ninjas attacked at night and dressed in black to hide in the dark better. I feel like I shouldn't have to explain the hand-in-hand relation between stealth and nighttime combat.
The Dark would put emphasis on Scanning, but perhaps add a drawback to active scanning. As it is, I sometimes find that the light emitted from Active Scanners gives people away, but not too often. In the dark, shining a flashlight could easily give your position away. Also I'm sure your visual effects artists would get giddy.
However it goes beyond scanning, it goes into timing. Obviously shooting a flaming plasma weapon in the pitch black is going to attract attention like pink Aston Marton in Albania.
The basis of this request is that there seem to be things that exist without too much use:
- Spotlights/lamps on vehicles (especially the dropship)
- Passive Scanning (when active scanning beats it hands down)
- Scouts (Ninjas can't hide in daylight!)
- Lamp posts (Dropship enemy #1 does not count)
Basically the dark would force people to make decisions.
- Give themselves away in the hopes of finding the enemy
- Put SP into scanning
- Bringing scouts to the field
- Search light vehicles/installations
---The mighty dropship soared overhead, it's search light hungry, ever-looking for prey.---
In regards to night-vision stuff like sights and goggles, Scouts deserve night vision mode innately and sights are a ways away.
TLDR
The dark opens up strategies and makes Prototype things hard to see.

Have had one or two night matches that were hilariously dark, but yeah, it usually isn't "night" enough, especially in areas more removed from the sockets. |

Don't the dropsuits have lights in their eyes. that could #1 that light gives them night vision. like amarr night vision is yellow gallente green ETC. 2# the lights give their position away due to a light in such a dark place look at your character to the left of your post and notice those four green eyes. |

The optical sights on the scrambler rifle and laser rifle actually work as a limited night vision, kinda. Its really weak, but I have noticed it I'm the darker maps. |
