I have been in squads with players that have 1-2M SP recently. They are having a tough time. The Battle Academy is a few battles for many and one for a skilled player. Regardless of Skill they all state that being in match after match against Proto gear is common.
This is an issue that I hope CCP/Shanghai is considering to put some effort into as it is making the game a rage event versus fun.
I know we asked for Filters and we got something like a filter although it wasn't anything like what we asked for. More of a different UI for the Battle Finder with being able to try and get into a combination of match types versus asking for one at a time. Brilliant in its elegance no doubt.
However, we seriously need some Filters with the first being to limit Allocated SP to some value. Obviously it should be some amount greater than what the Merc currently has. What we have now results in New Berry versus Proto. It doesn't have a chance to get old before they rage quit.
Not everyone wants to HTFU to join a F2P game. It is tough to talk them into dropping some cash to try out different equipment when their PS3 is turned off. |

Yes.
Just, instead of SP based, which I think you were talking about, gear filters.
Lock all the Proto or advanced suits if one joins a standard battle.
Otherwise.....Do it. |

SP filter, been said many times and I agree ( 4 mil SP's myself), problem is all the 20 mil SP players like to think themselves leet when proto stomping blueberrys and start saying there is little difference. which is bull I have seen a huge difference when my SP have increased, passive SP increases do a huge amount, add another layer with the gear made available and its a bit of a joke.

I think WP per death is possibly the best judgement of how good people are and so it should be used in matchmaking. K/D sucks for logis. SP sucks for people that don't just run one suit and one weapon. Gear filters aren't great because people should be able to run what they want if they're willing to risk more ISK. |

well since match matchmaking is impossible to the nature of the game how about training ques where any one can play but only basic & militia gear can be deployed meaning scrubs can train up to the point where the understand enough of the game to not get them selfs screwed over in a match, alternitivly it would keep the idiots out the the faction ques so the rest of us can have good games. |

I don't understand why part of the matchmaking can't be based on tiers of lifetime SP; under 1 million, 1-3 mill, 3 to 8, 8 to 15, etc.
Seems really simple and still gives chances to folks. You'd want expanding tiers because of the same way points get spent.
Look forward to seeing responses. |

I don't really want to see SP separation (Dust is much to small to split the community) but I'd love to see gear level locks for public matches. While SP would still be a significant advantage, the playing field would be at least slightly levelled. As I see it; Faction Warfare should remain unchanged, as should PC and only the basic public matches should be restricted. Advanced level and below should be more than sufficient to give new guys a fighting chance. |

Thanks for the comments fellow Mercs.
A few additional bits:
Up first is technically filtering at the equipment screen is not possible currently. At least I would strongly suspect that trying to do that would require a significant amount of effort. That has to be a lower priority than some of the task list that is currently known.
Next the user count is low. True. However to grow we need to bring in players (skilled and non-skilled) and the current system is a significant problem for doing that. Skilled players get into rage mode because they have < 2M SP yet are running against Proto gear and feel it is totally unfair. Which it is. Non-skilled players get in and stomped by those self same Proto Reds and lose interest. Who wants that? The game is stupid, unbalanced, too confusing, yada yada but they are history regardless of their incorrect realization.
Total SP is not valid to me. Assigned SP is a better solution based on my test char that has several million SP but only 1M allocated. There are many possibilities but a quick solution is best for the first implementation.
We have asked for many filters and one day they might make sense to implement eventually. Right now we have some issues that can be solved by a few, reasonably modest, efforts. My best guess as a software developer is to flag each player (character) at login. Then tie an option in the Battle Finder to searching for matches from similar leveled characters. On second thought, a server script could set the value for all players during shutdown. That might be simpler and is nothing more than a script and might be a better solution. Might not.
Long term the Devs have mentioned having Folders in the Fits menu. My thought would be to add a Filter option to each Folder. Then when we are in matches the only Fit Folders available are from those matching the active Filter.
Shorter term there could be a fall back matchmaking option. As in, my filter* for fighting only female characters using Nova Knives has Zero matches. After some period of time the fall back would be chosen instead. Possibly even with a required button press to accept the change. That solution will produce data (with some silly responses like my example) for CCP/Shanghai to see what is being requested. Then they can tweak the defaults to make more Mercs enjoy their experience down in the DUST.
* a wild example based on a massive player base with a functional and growing Filter for matchmaking. |
