*WARNING GÇô rampant speculation and conjecture ahead; almost definitely reading far too far into this*
*NOTE GÇô all numbers and values in this post are examples only*
Okay, so in my previous thread I supposed (possibly more hopefully than realistically) that the brief mention of GÇ£Disruption PlayGÇ¥ in the squad finder dev blog could be implying a new PVE game mode. Others suggested that this more likely refers to stuff like AWOXing and corporate sabotage GÇô I have some reasons why I donGÇÖt think this is the case, the main one being that those sorts of activities require fore-thought and planning and the dev blog specifically mentions disruption play in reference to GÇ£adhoc groupsGÇ¥ (that means a squad put together on the spot for an instant purpose rather than a pre-planned organised task).
After some more thought on the matter IGÇÖve come up with another, much more feasible possibility for what this Disruption Play could entail and itGÇÖs something that could come in very quickly tooGǪ
The line in the dev blog has 3 key parts: adhoc groups, disruptive play and involving meta game. Now there is really only one area of Dust514 right now that has any meta to it and thatGÇÖs PC, so my assumption is that this somehow refers to PC. However, with current mechanics you can only be involved in this meta with at least 24 hours of planning/prior notice and requiring a full team. In order for smaller, GÇÿadhoc groupsGÇÖ to be involved in this, there would have to be a new mechanic that allows for some people to instantly form a squad to go into a district and GÇÿdisruptGÇÖ the current activities. The only activity taking place when a PC battle is not occurring is the passive generation of clones, so disruption in this context could only refer to this.
Taking all this (admittedly huge mess of assumption) into account, this is my idea of what this titbit of information refers to: There will be opportunities for people to go to owned districts and sabotage the clone supply of the owner. This would not affect the currently stored clones on the district. It would take the form of a simple skirmish but with the attackers getting only very limited clones (say 60 for example). The difference from a normal skirmish is that by hacking objectives you stop a number of clones being produced, rather than control null cannons shooting an MCC. ThereGÇÖd still be a health bar in the top left but instead of showing MCC damage, it shows clone damage (up to a maximum of say 20% total daily clone production GÇô for simple numbers 22 clones for a production facility, 15 for any other SI). At the end, the attackers get isk rewarded to the value of the number of clones destroyed split evenly between them.
Sounds a bit simple and easy money right? Well, there are restrictions and safeguards: Instigating a raid costs each squad member the value of clones taken with the value of remaining clones refunded afterwards. Only 5 raids can be made between each RT. There is an hour (or 2) cool-down after each raid (to prevent continuous attacking of the same district during quiet periods). When your district is being raided, your entire corp gets a warning mail and the instance becomes available in Corp Contracts in the battle finder. Any number of people from your corp can deploy into the instance and fight off the attackers to save your clone production (which equals profit for your corp remember!). Keep in mind that raiders only get a limited number of clones, so even if they get a 5 minute headstart, it still wonGÇÖt be a huge task to wipe them out and/or rehack the objectives (which will activate null cannons to target their MCC).
In addition: Both raiders and defenders get extra isk and SP similarly to how instant battle rewards are currently calculated. If you attempt to raid a district but completely fail to stop production of even one clone or kill any enemies, you get zero isk reward. Defenders can bring in anyone in their squad to help. There is no cost to defending against a raid. Raids only impact on clones that would be produced in the next RT GÇôNOT currently stored clones on the district, so you could never lose a district due to a raid. You can not raid a locked district, so can not get involved in corpsGÇÖ ongoing attack efforts.
I think this whole idea would add a really cool mechanic to the game and also allow many more people to get involved in PC, even to a small extent, without needing a big corp, pre-planning or lots of dosh to do so. It also isnGÇÖt hugely different to any current mechanics that exist, so the dev requirements are entirely feasible.
I know IGÇÖve drawn an awful lot out of single line statement but wouldnGÇÖt it be awesome if this was what Team True Grit were investigating for the future of squads?
Anyone got any other cool ideas for what this GÇ£Disruption PlayGÇ¥ could mean beyond the really rather boring suggestions that itGÇÖs just about AWOXing and the like? |

I did mention something similar in your original thread and it's something like what you described that I was imagining when I first read that mention in the DEV blog. Could be something like this, but could also be anything else at all so there is not much point in speculating. Not that we need a point to do so.

Is AWOXing a boring suggestion because it's most likely the accurate one? |

Is AWOXing a boring suggestion because it's most likely the accurate one? Nah, it's boring because it's not new and adds nothing interesting to the game that we haven't already seen. |

Interesting speculation. Here is some more for you.
I understand that CCP will be updating how FW works as a means of increasing its importance to Dust players and perhaps to Eve players as well.
As such "Disruption Play" may also impact FW e.g. Slowing down the speed at which the possession percentage shifts from one group to another even if the "disruptive play" side looses the battle e.g. Holding, taking or destroying a specific installation, sort of like a mini domination contest within the larger battle. |
