Really. You always mention that you want to improve "core gameplay" first before you work on other stuff. But what exactly do you consider "core gameplay"? I don't want any info what you are working on. I also don't want any ETAs or something like that. I simply want to know what you consider being "core gameplay"
At the moment it sounds like "Controls / Movement / Balancing / Aiming" and stuff like that. But is that really it? I mean you say you want to improve "core gameply" but we also see new maps and we know you plan to release some weapons soon (they were planned for 1.5 after all but got pushed back). So is this stuff core gameplay too? |

i hope balancing weapons doesn't count since we don't have racial variants. Also hit detection(not sure if that counts as aiming) |

You just answered your own question. All of the above has gotten noticeably better to the point that they're ready to introduce new content, despite the delay. Had they tried to do so during 1.0-1.4, the game at its core would still be unplayable and hard to balance. |

Yet FoxFour just said that Core Gameplay still needs to be better.

That's precisely what I'm asking. Would be nice if they give us a tip. |

I think he's talking about gameplay from the point of view of what he's working on. |

their are still issues with the core game play.
1- team play is non existent, and no support exists for this mode, only squad play exists on a casual level.
2- players still get stuck on terrain frequently
3- rewards for playing matches are still horrible and uneven, ambush matches which take 1/4 of the time of a skirmish has the same pay out for example.
4- economy for this game is currently non-existent, having no market or areas to invest isk into.
5- wp gain is horribly imbalanced supporting some roles but giving zero support in other role.
6- rewards post match put all the weight on wp gain now, this is incorrect as it does not properly reward a team, a play that goes all out protecting point A and winning the match may only get 70k because a logi spammed uplinks and then watched tv.
7- factional warfare currently has no point
8- the eve link is nonexistent even on a superficial level, as eve is one oft he largest motivating factors to play this game I see the link being a core feature of the game
9- all of the base suits, are not in the game....this is a core function of the game, and is required to balance the roles of this game
10 -tutorials for new players need to be implemented.

Good question OP. Because we all use that phrase to mean different things. Sometimes core gameplay is just what's most important to my personal playstyle =P
Here's my definition: DUST is an online Multiplayer FPS.
Core mechanics for the online part: -Lag compensation.
Core mechanics for the MP part: -Bilateral rendering(if i can see you, you can see me). -Matchmaking. -Team/squad support. -Client stability.
Core Mechanics for the FPS part: -Character movement & movement transitions. -Character terrain/object interaction. -Controller input latency(usually measured in frames). -Frames per second. -Fidelity and predictability of character actions(reload, jump, weapon/equipment switching, equipment deployment, genades). -Aiming. Smooth & controllable for both fine adjustment and fast rotation. Natural-feeling ADS compensation. -Aiming. Interaction of strafe with hipfire and ADS. Ability to track without fighting the game. -Aiming and controls player-customization.
That's a very crude very fast list of the top of my head, trying not to feature bloat here. But it would be productive if we could all, CCP included, tighten up on the nomenclature.
EDIT: P.S.: Tbh, i would call my list Core Mechanics, not Core Gameplay. |
