Hello developers, thank you for all of your hard work. I especially enjoy the squad finder utility you have slated to arrive in October and hope it proves useful to me when i can't run with corp mates.
That being said, I was wondering if you plan on revisiting matchmaking any time soon? I had a very clear portrait of its inconsistencies today, if it is still in effect at all.
Today I had the time to play three matches. Here is a breakdown of how they panned out:
Parameters: All Skirmish matches played as a lone wolf hacker scout.
Match one: This match was close, between two roughly even teams it seemed. No one on either team seriously outstripped either their team mates or opponents in regard to kills or war points and it came down to the wire. I landed in the top three with around 1600 war points from my hacking efforts and a handful of shotgun blasts. This match had a few small corp squads on either side that seemed to prove equal to one another. It was a well balanced match.
Match two: This is where things began to become problematic. My own team had no corporate squads whereas the opposing team had a full one. Still, the players on my team seemed to be decent. I managed to shepherd a few of them towards unguarded objectives with my up-links and we won. This seemed balanced to the casual observer, but upon scrutinizing the kill boards it proved not so. I was top of my team with a halfway decent 1400 war points. The player in the #2 slot had 500. On the other team the top three in the corporate squad had upwards of 20 kills and 1500 war points each and every player below them had 300 war points or less. Apparently that one squad just didn't feel like taking objectives.
Match three: This match was a pub stomping nightmare. I eked out around 900 war points from extremely aggressive hacking but my team was getting massacred. When the kill board came along I saw that our number one player had 33 kills and upwards of 2500 war points and the rest of our team below me (at number three) were hovering around 500 war points and an average of 3 kills. The other team, meanwhile, had at least 8 players with kills consistently above 12 and 0-2 deaths.
I don't know what parameters are used for matchmaking, but I was wondering if you are planning to revisit the matchmaking system? |

everything in this game is running under the assumption of constant iteration and improvement. Nothing is ever going to be "finished" per-say.
priorities will determine what gets added/improved when.
However no match making will be able to constantly end with fair matches. You can't control players AFKing, gear level freedom, players performance being psychologically affected by the start of a battle, or loss of an asset. Match making should find a good average but there will always be games that you win by overkill or lose by a long shot |

A couple of my friends watching me play have asked me if Scotty was drunk. I honestly see no pattern to how the matchmaker works and as many times as I or my squad have been dropped into the end of a badly losing match, I think they may be correct. BTW CCP next time I get dropped into a losing match with less than 50% of the health left on the MCC I would really appreciate it if you paid me for my suits while the rest of the blue team is sitting in the red line using the starter sniper suits.. |
