Higher ROF and damage compared to what?
And what type of damage? Damage Over Time or Alpha Damage?

The downside to the assault forge being that as soon as it's charged, it fires, whereas the other forge is able to hold a charge as long as you would like it to. |

If that's the only downside, then it has no downside because that's an upside
Compare two FG with same damage. A charge holding one will lose dps because the player needs to wait an extra tenth of a second to confirm the gun is charged before releasing, or else they'll lose a whole charge time canceling prematurely.
Whereas that same gun having no hold-shot means it's just aim and fire away as fast as you can with no worry about canceling a 99% charged shot. |

It's a downside because you must time your shots, or lead your targets perfectly. If you are off by just a tiny fraction, you will miss. This, of course, only matters to us Heavies who don't camp on towers.
Hold Charge FGs allow you to just hold your charge and move/strafe until the instant your reticule turns orange, then release. There is no skill to using these. |

- Higher fitting requirements
- Higher ISK costs
- Higher SP pre-reqs
Also I've never heard a Forge Gunner complain about accidentally canceling out a shot. Just like I've never heard of a Dropship pilot saying they flew too fast and that makes it impossible to fly. |

There's no downside to the assault forge outside of ISK and SP. Performance wise it's better in every way.
And non-stop rapid fire is not a downside. |

There is more skill involved in using the Assault FG, its just that its worth gaining that skill.
The breach is still better for tank stomping (personally) |

And non-stop rapid fire is not a downside. The OP was arguing Forge Guns holding a charge was a disadvantage. Which is rubbish. |

i think OP has never used a FG before even more so with the assault variant, otherwise there won't be posts like this.
sure our assault FG has high ROF but have you ever tried shooting at someone with it? its not as easy as it looks. out of 4 shots per clip you'd be lucky to 1 shot hits someone, the rest are missed shots due to being unable to hold your charge and trying to lead your target, its not like the guy is going to be running in a straight line once he knows you are shooting at him. |

Yeah, on level ground its a lil tricky to hit 'a person'
but this is the AV weapon meant to balance against tanks. Try missing a tank |

well im not a tower forger, i still manage to hit players on level ground but i tend not to use it at close range, rather at some sniper by a hill or whatnot, or when im pissed at MD users and i blast their face with my FG
its actually quite possible to miss a tank, buildings, tiny hills, speed tanks that runs out of range, those stuff could make a FG miss its shots. |

100% acknowledge. Go and use one before you complain about it.
I'd say the assault is well balanced to the standard version. Good against tanks (they have a lot of HP and the assault does more damage) but more difficult to use against infantry and LAVs (i somehow can't hit this fast moving things with my assault FG, except they move straight in my direction). Ok, Dropships go down to fast. They usually go down after 2 hits and can't hide behind a building or hill as fast as a tank. On the other hand, i have emptied forgegun-clips into tanks and their shields lost about 20%. Once the tank didn't even move the whole time because he just didn't care about my forgegun. I don't try to hit Logi-LAVs because i don't have enough ammo to kill one. So I'd say vehicles need a balace but not the forgegun. |

tower forge snipers aren't real forge gunners anyway.
Like on the rare occasions I indulge I use the militia forge, because it's cheap, and bluntly people scream more when I kill them with it.
Apparently people get more butthurt when you gank them with crappy gear.
