I think it would be rather interessting if CCP could turn this game is to an openworld FPS when taking distrists or planets or the districts turn into continents for planets. Something like planetside 2. I know the playerbase will need to improve first but its the only way I can see jets, bombers, mechs, and etc unless you make Battlefield size maps with lots of cover to dodge snipers. I just think the game would be better that way to match EVE's open world. Would like a dev to comment on this please. Thank you for your time. |

You see, the problem with open-world gameplay for capturing districts is that any Joe with a MLT suit can log on at 5:00am and take a district with no defense at all. Takes away the fun of working hard for that district.
Maybe, Corp A can attack Corp B with 200 clones. THEN, it turns to some open-world gameplay by having Corp A having to transport themselves + the clones over to Corp B's district manually. Allowing any corporation (pirates, Corp B, a hired corp,) to intercept the convoy.
That could also cause a problem of people>skill. Making big corporations the only viable way to successfully have a sand castle. |

But if the battle times still apply then the planet or district can be locked. I see the problem with the pirates or Corp B, but doesn't EVE have the same engagements. This would also allow multple corps to be hired into a fight. Also you can desgnate the clone count for each distrist if they were to act as continents. Yes this would favor large corps but then again what game doesn't favor large organziations. But in this way of combat, ties can still be formed and a small corp can still get big. |

Well, were gonna need a LOT of maps.
5000 systems in EVE, assuming 2 temperate planets in each solar system would mean rough 10000 maps for the Server to watch carefully.
Seems a bit over done.
I'd be fine with more things for use to drop into from the MQ

Attack the sand castle, and then gather small groups of troops. slowly move up on the main base. then hit it from all sides at the same damn time. |

Anyways, I'fd rather not go down that path, but open world I do like. Say specific planets at first (maybe one region, like Molden Heth) with different types of environments, and a set 5x5-10-10 km map, all kinds of NPC villages, pirate compounds, mining areas, etc. Missions could be obtain on the surface at a office on the planet, and those missions could affect the mood on the planet. Like for instance, if a village gets enough resources, it could more easily make goods and at a higher rate, making that planets things cost less. Or if a certain group get attacked (Like say Serpentis), they could call in a raid because they could be fed up with it. EVE side and Dust could fight to reclaim order on the planet, and if successful, could get rewarded greatly. That's the kind of PVE I always wanted in a game, and the mood of Dust could allow it, and in a BIG way. |

I think it's possible, and you don't need lots of maps. I honsetly think this is a good idea |

LOL.
"My suggestion: Rewrite the entire game."
DUST would suck as open world. Given that there are tens of thousands of planets in Molden Heath, each the size of an actual planet... it's too much of nothing but dirt. There's no good reason to do that.
Also, Planetside 2 sucks. Move on. |

The maps are designed in way to accomodate semi-open world gameplay. It may be possible some day to play 64 vs 64 players district vs district games, at least thats what the modular map design suggests. |

If you are you call yourself a fps MMO your gameplay must be of that cailber. Am I wrong? Wrong, because your comparison is too narrow. You want it to be open world, but you're asking for development to completely change direction. This is a squad based, lobby shooter. We might get some sort of player hub down the road, but it'll never be open world. (For a refreshing open world shooter, I'd like to suggest Firefall.) |

For continuity and quick fun, this game will always need the lobby battle map loading. But how we get to those lobbies could be more contextualized. Soraya's right, it's too big for total open world, but Godin has a good suggestion for an environment that makes you feel more like you are actually on a planet and local events can affect current gameplay.
Mercs are more wanton with their clones and should be able to jump clone (or micro shuttle [basically instantly] or something) to be able to meet up with those they wish to fight with. But the addition of an optional game mode with some persistent open maps that can only be joined or left (without some penalty or forfeit of reward) only at certain points (i.e. medbay, shuttlebay) would give Dust 514 players a way to get a more EvE-like experience by venturing out and exploring a territory to riches or ruin.
These maps could be on a planet's surface, space station, archaeological asteroid site, rogue drone structure, etc. adding a venue for coop / resource / exploration / missioning / ratting / bounty hunting / pirating to Dust 514's scale of New Eden. This would also further connect the two platforms by adding more diverse opportunities for EvE pilots to interact with Dust mercs through scanning / hacking / jamming etc. for the task at hand. |
