hi folks,
I'm looking for a guide on best HP fitting(s) for non-proto dropships. I've found a lot of theoretical mumbo jumbo in dropship guides about "well shields do this.. armor does that..." but no SPECIFIC FIT examples. Really annoying.
Disclaimer: I'm not an active-module kinda guy. So active hardeners are useless to me. I know enough to run away: I need enough tank to make sure I survive long enough TO get away. I can barely manage engaging an afterburner while running. That's about it
Given the pathetically limited power suply of dropships, and that armor costs more PG than shields, it kinda seems like my best option is to start with an armor based dropship, then slap a lot of shield exenders on it, plus afterburner. Specifically basic+ supplimental, swapping out the basic for Azeotropic when I can SP up enough.
That about sound right?

Just tell me what dropship you fly and i'll give you some fittings you can try out that i've always been using. Although, don't get your hopes up, they won't save you from current AV users or redline railguns. Beware.
Thanks. Well lets go with a cheap base. Gorgon and Viper? Given that even the "1 up" versions are twice the price, yet have almost identical power and base HP, I dont see the point of me (ME: not all you other readers our there :) flying more expensive toys.
With my prior theories, Gorgon >> Viper for survivability, the way I fly. But if you've got a fitting to prove me wrong; please, I'm all ears |

I know it sounds idiotic to have 2 shields because of the recharge rate but I can take 3 shots of most of what's out there with this build and it is usually enough for me to get away. I find myself dying alot more when I remove a shield for a spawn or whatever.
Going just by number of slots, that fitting (or something close) would also go on a Grimsnes, no? But at 1/2 to 1/3 the price. |

To the "I wanna learn how to fly" poster: I would recommend gorgon (militia), zero fittings. They're slow, but stable. Ifyou also move the sticks slow, that should keep you out of trouble. Vipers are too "twitchy".
To my other esteemed collegues here, I'm gonna post my current attempts at max tanking, for lulz.
For my characters that dont have any shield or armor modules unlocked, which is... ... Daang, almost ALL of them! Those things re freakin SP *sinks*...
anyway, I found I can fit 3 basic shield extenders, 1 energized plate, on a viper, if I throw in junk for weapons. This gives:
Viper: 2138shld, 693armor, with 10% armor resist, and 2% shield resist due to required cpu low module. This gives an "effective" hp of 2890 I call this my "Viper one-way" fit. For one-way trips :) 148,000 ISK
Gorgon, if I want to keep it USEFUL, with 2x cycled missiles, I can only squeeze in 2x shield extenders. no energized plate :( but since it already starts with beaucoup d'armor, that yields 1410shield, 1530armor. And I have to use all 3 low-slots with cpu enhancers. So no repair, no energizer. Which means it's almost the same as the viper, with total HP of 2940
For the light at the end of the tunnel, I found one char of mine that has invested in level 1 for almost all vehicle skills... This allows a gorgon to fit:
2xshield extender 1 (no stacking penalty), and energized plating. Which gives totals of Gorgon: 1930shield, 1530armor, 6% shield resist, 13% armor resist. For effective hp of 3773. WITH the gorgon-blue-printed armor repairer! 161,000 ISK
Hey now, that's kinda respectable!
... but not very useful, since I had to drop down to scattered blasters to do it. Capped out on CPU. UGH! If I get that char trained up to vehicle electronics level 2, instead of 1.. Gah.. only allows ONE missle turret. Had to get vehicle electronics to level 3, to allow both. So, specificaly, with V. electronics up to 3, I can fit a gorgon with
2xbasic shield extender, 1xBPO repair, 1xcpu enhancer I, and 1xmilitia energized plate, 2xcycled missle launchers == 3773 eHP for 145,000 ISK |
