assault for sure, but armor and shield depend on how you want to fly.

The incubus is ideal armour tanking. It can take more punishment then the pyton, but is slower.

The python is ideal for shield tanking. It has more maneuverability then the incubus, but takes less punishment.

also active hardners make a huge difference. use them.

Yeah. In a public match you'd have to contend with the less able blues spawning into your Logi DS - waking up turrets and generally making you more of a target. not to mention the problems of trying to recall them.

On the manoeuvrability front the Gal DS's are naturally better at handling but a Jovian evens everything out so swings and roundabouts.

To OP - just chose whichever compliments the kind of mods you want to go for. Its easier to make a sporty Gal DS but then the Cal's have some tactical advantages with afterburners, scanners ect.

 WELP

 Pro tip:

Wait until next week when we know more about the upcoming vehicle changes before spending ANY sp on a certain vehicle or vehicle modules.

 Can't wait tip:

It all depends on what you want to do.

 Strictly transport: Logistics

 Fighting capabilities: Assault

You next choice is simple, go armor you'll last longer if you get attacked. Forge gun will 1 -2 shot you if you go Shield,

 Hope it helps

dont waste your SP on dropships. As soon somebody wants to shot you down he will do it 90% of the time. And for my taste dropships are way to expensive for how easy it is to shot them down. Cause a assault dropship costs around 1 mil ISK or more properly fitted.

wait for CCP to fix vehicles before becoming a skycoffin pilot, right now it's costly. very very costly.

But open both logi and assault, both are good when used right. Armor/shield you choice based on flying preferences.

They're both a horrible horrible trap, but if you must punch yourself in the soul, go with Assault. Logistics dropships are just a bad bad joke right now.

In a month & a half we'll have a completely revamped vehicle system. You might want to save your decision until then, and just spend your SP on modules & isk on militia ships.

The militia dropships can actually maintain some decent fittings, and experience using them will certainly help inform your decision.

Well, it really depends on your skill at flying, how you want to support your team, and how much ISK you have. If you don't have very much ISK or you aren't a pro at flying, I would suggest going Logi, as they aren't as expensive. However, if you want to be more of an aerial (pardon my spelling) support vehicle, such as when you don't squad up, then I would suggest going Assault. It really all depends on how you want to support your team.

First you better learn how to fly a dropship. They can be hard to do at first.

Start a second account and create an alt char that you can set to passive skill training and spec into dropships to be sure you are going to be able to do it and like it. Don't waste points on your main for nothing.

I went assault dropship with my infantry main and have specced my two tank chars into standard dropship since I've already got the vehicle module skills.

I would spec the tankers into logi dropship but there is no reason to use logi dropships atm. Mounting a mobile CRU on a standard dropship is just as good.

I went with the Caldari shield assault dropship (Python) because I think it's cooler looking for an assault ship and shields won't slow you down.

Speed is greater than armor and learning to fly with erratic maneuvers or staying up high and swooping down are better than trying to stay low and tank damage. My tank's railgun is going to get you if you stay still and are not behind or down in buildings.

I did a guide on Dropship flying but need to update it in the forums. However, here is a really good series of dropship training videos on youtube by JudgeRhadamanthus:

Yeh I've watched all of those.

I flew dropships in chromosome but I understand they've changed considerably since then, I'm just hoping they aren't unusable compared to how they were in chrome.

I have played with many of the posters here. Their comments are right; a pilots life is full of frustration and expense. But I have heard these very people having fun too. As I do. Yes it is frustrating; but not always. It is fun. It is not for everyone because it is hard. Not only do you have to move about in all dimensions but you have modules to manage and soon ammo.

It is these difficulties that make it good. The difficulty makes your success feel rewarding. Dropshipping in no fused core locus grenade. You can not just spam about the place getting easy kills. Even getting a single enemy in your sights costs a great deal in ISK and SP and that's before you even pull the trigger. You often get a single shot, maybe two all the while your 1.3 million isk ship is an easy target for anyone who has eyes.

Nothing compares to running in a squad of 6 dropships. And I have emails from the ground forces, saying that it looked epic, and it felt epic. Dropships (and tanks) make a fight a battle.

Have a go. It might not be for you. Do not expect an easy trip, or to succeed early on. If it is for you, you will know it. THe pilots, real dedicated pilots will support you. A stronger sub-community does not exist.
