Go for the core focused repair tool. Short range, but 3 times the repair rate. It's hard to get people to stand still long enough, so you can rep people in just a couple seconds... and you can support someone while they are taking fire at a rate that improves their odds of surviving an encounter.

And remember, you DO get guardian points if reaping someone while the kill a red berry!! This is in addition to your triage points!! Have fun!!

If you want to be a good "support" logi then your rep tool will be one of your greatest assets. I personally have my rep tool equipped the majority of the time rather than my gun.
The following recommendations are based on maximizing HP repaired per second for team mates:
STANDARD:
Flux Repair tool (25 HP per second at 22m distance) Of the standard tools this one allows you to rep teammates at the greatest distance away. This will be helpful when you are first learning how to use your tool (i.e. quick switches and locking on the correct target) and will mean that you will be chasing blue dots around less.
ADVANCED:
BDR-8 Triage Repair tool (41 HP per second at 18m) The best advanced tool on the market in my opinion. If you are looking to save money the BDR-2 is cheaper but less effective.
PROTOTYPE: When you get to proto your options open up and you can customize the too usedl to the situation at hand. You also gain access to the tools that allow you to rep 2 people at the same time.
Six Kin triage (44HP 21m) - great all rounder. Since the introduction of aim assist this one will keep your team alive longer than the other dual beam tools,
Core Focused (105HP 10m) for use with heavies.
Lai Dai Flux (35HP 31m) great range but since aim assist came in its a bit harder to keep someone alive during a fight with this tool.
Hope this helps.

What I usually go by is what kind of weapon I'm using or what kind of suits I'm in squad with. Flux is perfect if you're using mid/long range weapons, standard/triage/focused works better with short/mid range. In CQC maps, you could easily replace the repper with triage hives in well placed areas or pair it up with a proto. If you got more armor tanked suits, triage works better and if there's more shield tankers anything below works or just a proto injector. Versatility is key. |

I personally prefer the BDR-8 Triage for all matches besides PC.
Besides that everyone has already provided great tips on picking your repair tool, so I guess I'll talk about using it.
1. Locating people who need it
As you become accustomed to looking for people who need repairs you start guessing that that person who just sprinted back from the enemy line will probably need repairs. Simply watching people getting shot and noticing the crackle of blue around them indicating their shields are down definitely means they'll have taken armour damage. I generally choose to repair people who are dealing damage; people say it's a waste but if the person you're repairing is out in the open, you can be damn sure he's showing on the enemy minimap and is a potential target for their snipers/slayers.
For starters though, use a cheap main weapon (militia/standard AR) and ADS/crosshair your teammates to bring up their HP bars to determine who's taken damage.
2. Locking on
Generally, once you locate someone who needs healing (through observation or HP bars), take out your repair tool, hold down the trigger (fire) button, and sweep the crosshairs across your target. ie. have your crosshairs on the left of your target, holding down the trigger, and sweep to the right, or from right to left depending on what feels comfortable. To me, anyway, that feels easiest, because it can compensate for your target moving.
3. Managing WP
After healing a heavy you will generally reach the Triage/Guardian WP cap. DON'T STOP REPAIRING. DON'T go off and do your own thing. Stick with your charge, keep repairing, keep their ammo up, do whatever you can to support the person(s) you've decided to support. Leaving your teammates renders your repair tool useless; worst mistake UNLESS you're confident you can hack/kill something.
Anyway, WP WILL reset after a minute or two, and you'll start gaining Triage WP again. |
