So.. Uplinks. They're great for your team, having the ability to spawn in wherever they're placed. Especially for Heavy players, who would otherwise have to waddle their way across the map for a fight a majority of the time. Mobile CRU's are too, but they're alot less used, requiring vehicles to be installed in, and in their current state, are not practical as they do not reward the driver / pilot of the vehicle any WPs (hopefully this will be fixed in the 1.5 / 1.6 updates). However, what makes them different? Apart from the handheld vs vehicle usage, WP reward, methods of deployment, they are identical in functionality. Now here's the original description of a drop uplink : The drop uplink is a slave transponder, a short-range tether that produces the precise spatial coordinates necessary to generate a localised wormhole, traversal of which allows the user to travel short distances instantly
Note the 'traversal of which allows the user to travel short distances instantly' part. Alot of you will not like what i'm about to say but here's essentially what i'm getting down to; I think that the drop uplink should be used as a short-range -instant travel- unit, like a teleporter. "Whoa whoa whoa", you say, this guys pushing it.. Well, imagine your fellow squad mate places down two uplinks (this has to be the minimum, obviously, otherwise it wouldn't work. THINK PORTALS).. he places one down in a reasonably safe location, and another near all the action. This would allow players to get out and into a fight almost instantly, traversing the map in no time. Obviously, there would need to be limitations to use and a timer to prevent, lets say, a heavily damaged soldier instantly teleporting to safety. It would have to take, at minimum, 3-5 seconds of standing on the uplink itself to traverse to the secondary. This would allow for greater 'guerilla-tactic' ambushing by organised players, transportation of critical units, like medics, to where they need to be, and a bigger encouragement for the vehicle players to start installing Mobile CRU's on to their vehicle fittings. Imagine how useful Dropships would be then? They would actually need to play their role as troop transport and not aerial targets or gunships (and this is coming from me, probably the most dedicated Assault Dropship pilot in the game, if not one of them). Now, I know there would be alot of nasty implications like getting out of a firefight by escaping via uplink only to find there's a bunch of enemies on the other end, all nozzles directed at your nether region but that happens anyway already with people camping uplinks, so you'll just have to deal with that. Mobile CRU's are rarely seen nowadays and I believe it's high time for them to be brought back into the field, especially with the vehicle overhaul right around the corner, and what better way to encourage the use of vehicular transportation by re-thinking the idea of drop uplinks? Not means of getting fresh clones onto the field as a CRU would, but using it as a tactical & instant travel portal that can be used to change the battlefield.
I know even if CCP took onboard the idea, the mechanics of doing so would be, to say the least, very god damn difficult to do but this is what General Discussion is for, is it now? To discuss theories and ideas, no matter how far-fetched they are.

Dumb idea and knowing CCP it would take too much work for them to do something like that. Just look at the devpost about vehicle balance beeing pushed back again. I cant tell how many times this allready happend. But if you keep wanting to change it you might see that feature in 2015.... if you are lucky. |

I like the idea of the transporters, but not as a replacement of uplinks. I think they can work side by side.
Well thought out - I like the delay - maybe make it like the vehicle recall features where you have to hold circle for a period of time, and then add in a cool-down period so you can't jump again?

Uplinks are tactical insertion points, but at the moment there are no "tactical" drawbacks, uplinks should be low profile low spawn count units with high spawn times.
And then we can have jump gates, I think having so much freedom on the teleporter, is a bad idea, make them sockets to limit overuse, vehicle bunits become more relevant! |

hmmm. I just thought of a heavy, perched on top of a tower with a forge gun. imagine if he had someone place an uplink by the base supply depot and a second on the tower? infinite ammo right there basically. .... more flaws to my idea, damn it! |

-a TANK Spawn should grant AT LEAST 50 WP, considering the limited amount of space in the tank and the possibility of the recenly spawned blue to stay in the tank there by denying further spawns.
-a Dropship spwan should award 25 WP every single time. |
