With all the recent updates there has been a huge increase in HP which now means that someone fully specced into snipers with top end damage mods using a proto level Sniper rifle need to hit the enemy 5 times + to get 1 kill .... Now when I get hit I dont even bat an eyelid because I know they cant kill me anymore
I think CCP should think about introducing a new Rifle. Add a sniper rifle that does 1500 damage but has a clip of 1 and a huge reloading time of like 30 seconds .. and make the sniper rifle a real anti infantry fear factor weapon .. a 30 sec CD would mean the sniper user would have to pick targets carefully and make sure that the shot hits to get a kill .. imagine a group of enemies running to a point with a few medium suits a couple of heavys etc .. the squad on the ground could inform the sniper to target a particular player and take them out before the fire fight starts or the sniper could inform the squad of whats coming and then the squad ask the snper to target someone ...
Right now snipers just shoot the weakest players that they see ... I've always been against the idea that snipers need to work together to get kills and rapid fire at their targets.. snipers are supposed to be the lone wolfs within a squad defending particular areas and relaying info to the squad .. remove the red line and add a rifle like the one i mentioned and make this game more realistic
having to have 2 snipers in a squad for them to actually be able to take people out is extremely counter productive .. they are more useful running a miltia AR fit and using an active scanner than being a sniper .. I don't even allow them into my squads anymore because even a good one is useless v a squad in full proto gear ... If i'm honest snipers are usually the ones that take kills off me because they are forced to be the ones to deal a finishing blow to get WP rather than taking out targets we are struggling to reach they take out targets we are about to kill anyway
All I want from this game is for every weapon to be useful in its own way and as it stands Sniper Rifles are pretty much pointless which is a shame because I'vre been told they require alot of sp and the dropsuit loadouts are just as expensive ...
I don't want this game to become like COD where everyone is running around with Shotguns/AR's/SMG's twitch shooting each other around points .. I want the fear introduced back into the game .. a bit like my desire to see proto level tanks .. I cant use them but nothing is more fun than having a target that if left unchecked could make you lose or if you take it out you will win

Have you tried using kb/m when sniping? It's kinda like using training wheels but honestly if you can't drop someone with three shots to the head with a militia then maybe you should consider driving a tank. |

I'm a dedicated sniper... and I have absolutely no problem with the current game-play for the sniper rifle.
If you're running solo... you can still provide your team with help by countering enemy snipers on the field, or setting yourself in a 'Shoot to Kill' phase. During this particular phase, searching for targets of opportunity are a plus, especially when a large group of blueberries are pushing an objective.
If you're running with a squad, you shouldn't be worried about getting kills. Your job is to provide over-watch and rolling intel of the battlefield. If you have a LOS on your Squad who are pushing a hot objective, your goal should be nothing more than softening up priority targets: (Heavies, Logis, Proto Assaults, Everything else.)
Also, not all snipers are looking to steal your kills. If I see a blueberry engaged in a firefight with a single hostile target, and I see that he is struggling and no one is gaining the upper hand in the engagement, I will put rounds into the target to ensure that the blueberry has a better chance, or to ensure that the blueberry actually survives the encounter to continue on with the fight, rather than waiting an extra ten seconds to spawn back in.
Last but not least... most modern snipers work in teams of two. As a spotter / sniper team, you can cause a lot of havoc on the battlefield... and even lock down major passage ways.
So no. The sniper rifle doesn't need to be changed, fixed, improved upon. It is fine where it's at. |

I am actually surprised how effective snipers are now. Getting two-shot by tacticals, and OHK'ed by charge snipers with over 600 HP on my suit. |

I've sniped since beta and I can't believe I'm saying this but I agree with you. In pc matches charge sniper rifles are mere mosquito bites to shield tankers because of the 90% effectiveness and rate of fire. You need a thale to be effective in a pc as a sniper. This being said I don't think we need a sniper rifle that deals 1500 dmg. All I request is a reduction in the stacking penalty or a buff of 50-70 dmg for proto snipers along with a slight price increase. |

(Based on my kill performance in battle - IE: How many shots it takes for me with a gank-tanked Charge Sniper to kill an enemy.)
Militia Frames: Heavies - Three shots (One for shield, Two for Armor) Assault / Logi - One or Two shots (Dependent on tank.) Scout - One shot
Standard Frames: Heavies - Three shots. Assault / Logi - One or Two shots (Again dependent on tank.) Scouts - One shot (Unless they're extremely lucky and live with one HP for whatever reason.)
Advance Frames: Heavies - Four shots Assaults / Logis - Two or Three shots (Once again, dependent on tank.) Scouts - One or Two shots.
Proto Frames: Heavies - Four shots (body) Three shots (Head + Two shots body.) Assaults / Logis - Three shots (body) or One shot (head) Scouts - One or Two shots.
I don't think this is completly acurate. Cal Logis take 4-5 when the sheild tank, call assults 3-4,

Op brings up a few valid point though. Up has risen, penalty on dmg mods makes them cumbersome on the of and cpu. Compared to shield and armour tanking why would anyone use dmg mods? |

my 900+ ehp logi suit is down in 2 from a charged and 3 from a militia. 5 hits to the body maybe but why are you doing that. sniping is a headshot game |

Pretty sure in spite of the official word that rail-hybrids deal bonus armour damage, the Sniper Rifle is still dealing bonus damage to shields.
Improved armour means more armour tankers. More armour tankers means more enemies resistant to your shield-oriented weapon.
Whether railgun damage is fixed or not before then, I look forward to seeing a Minmatar sniper rifle that hits armoured targets MUCH harder than shields. Then we'll see teams where each sniper preferentially targets the targets they're better suited to kill.
Also, most targets go down in 1 or 2 hits if you aim for the head. You should try it sometime. |

I dont even use sniper rifles , what is with the players in this community ???? All i'm saying is snipers are the equivalent of blueberries in miltia gear .. they aren;t the scary anti infantry units they should be .. needing 3 headshots to kill me .. an experienced player who uses cover and moves around ... just doesn;t happen .. i've been killed more by people dropping vehicles on top of me than by snipers since I hit proto level
There is far too much bragging on this thread .. I don;t care how good you are at killing new players i'm talking about PC and proto v proto experienced players fighting .. If you go 20-0 in ambush or skirmish .. so what .. it means nothing ... |

My counter Sniper Build is a heavy using a forge gun, don;t need a scope the cross hairs light up orange when im on target ... the forge gun even has a lower charge up time than the charge sniper rifle xD |

Dude what ever you are smoking cannot be good for you. 30 second reload, why don't I go play in traffic and let an LAV drag me to my death. Sniper rifles do need a small 5 maybe 10% buff to compensate for the armor buff, but that is still pushing it. |

I'm a dedicated sniper. I have a bunch of damage mods on my suits and carry a proto sniper rifle. I'm a move around type sniper and I dislike the mechanic of the redline because it is unsporting and unrealistic.
Yes, there has been an increase in target armour/shields but I don't feel that it is that bad. It doesn't take me 5 shots to kill anything (if they hit). Even the big heavies aren't super hard to drop if you can hit them 3 times (with 3 light complex damage mods). I don't see buffing snipers and sniper weapons as necessary.
My biggest problem are the new enclosed sockets and hidden objectives. Almost all the combat is taking place inside the new sockets and I can't see any reds to shoot. The entrances are sometimes hidden behind walls. I can't cover my team when they go in for a hack and I can't cover the objectives once they are hacked.
Hacking myself is even more difficult because the objectives are well hidden inside structures or below ground. A grumpy sentinel is almost always waiting with some mean weapon, and hip firing a sniper rifle is like throwing darts blindfolded. The sidearms we carry don't even scratch the paint on sentinels.
There are very, very few ladders or climbable structures on the new sockets. The new maps are fairly flat.
According to CCP LogicLoop these map/socket changes were deliberately aimed (no pun intended) at snipers and will continue on all new maps. He says he is considering some criticism from us snipers and may open things up a bit. We will see.
Scouting is more difficult because the active scanners don't have the range we need to snipe and scan at the same time, so we can't help as much in that regard.
We'll see how this goes but I'm cautiously hopeful that CCP LogicLoop is hearing these comments by me and others.

A small increase in alpha might be in order to make all sniping that isn't thales point defense more viable in PC. I usually use a tac sniper rifle with 2 complex damage mods on an ADV suit in public matches and I don't have any problem being dangerous. In PC, everything other than a thales with 3+ complex damage mods gets ouclassed by the amount of eHP full proto suits provide. It is often the case with high alpha weapons that they have wave-form osciallations in effectiveness over time. They are highly effective when new content is realeased as their base stats outclass damage mitigation and then they become increasingly less effective as content matures and mitigation improves. Some sort of armor/shield penetration mod might be effective in smoothing out the effectivness of sniper rifles, if said mod worked based on the HP of the target. I imagine it would be expensive, occupy a high slot, and would only be worth it when fighting high eHP targets as staight damage mods would be more effective against run of the mill suits.

I think CCP should think about introducing a new Rifle. Add a sniper rifle that does 1500 damage but has a clip of 1 and a huge reloading time of like 30 seconds .. and make the sniper rifle a real anti infantry fear factor weapon .. a 30 sec CD would mean the sniper user would have to pick targets carefully and make sure that the shot hits to get a kill .. imagine a group of enemies running to a point with a few medium suits a couple of heavys etc .. the squad on the ground could inform the sniper to target a particular player and take them out before the fire fight starts or the sniper could inform the squad of whats coming and then the squad ask the snper to target someone ...
Right now snipers just shoot the weakest players that they see ... I've always been against the idea that snipers need to work together to get kills and rapid fire at their targets.. snipers are supposed to be the lone wolfs within a squad defending particular areas and relaying info to the squad .. remove the red line and add a rifle like the one i mentioned and make this game more realistic
having to have 2 snipers in a squad for them to actually be able to take people out is extremely counter productive .. they are more useful running a miltia AR fit and using an active scanner than being a sniper .. I don't even allow them into my squads anymore because even a good one is useless v a squad in full proto gear ... If i'm honest snipers are usually the ones that take kills off me because they are forced to be the ones to deal a finishing blow to get WP rather than taking out targets we are struggling to reach they take out targets we are about to kill anyway
All I want from this game is for every weapon to be useful in its own way and as it stands Sniper Rifles are pretty much pointless which is a shame because I'vre been told they require alot of sp and the dropsuit loadouts are just as expensive ...
I don't want this game to become like COD where everyone is running around with Shotguns/AR's/SMG's twitch shooting each other around points .. I want the fear introduced back into the game .. a bit like my desire to see proto level tanks .. I cant use them but nothing is more fun than having a target that if left unchecked could make you lose or if you take it out you will win
i read this and all i could think of... MORTARS!!!! and i like the idea who else?
