FFXIV stole 1.3k players away and have yet to fully recover.
Last of Us Launch day was about 200 players but we recovered those. As usual you are comparing apples and oranges. GTA and those other games mentioned above were bought and paid for so most folks could just **** around solo. Folks should have never thought FPS folks would totally abandon true competitive FPS games for them. The core 4500 on dust right now that it has been averaging were never going to leave permanently for any of those games due to those games being geared more for solo play. GTA online also does not come out until October. Even then I do not see it siphoning off folks permanently. What you should be concerned about is other FPS games coming out later on such as Cod, BF4, and Killzone. Those games may siphon players off permanently or at least for a good couple of months until the new car smell goes away on them. There is no reason why folks can not play multiple games or even multiple FPS shooters at the same time. I will never understand this my favorite game vs every other game mentality. Folks should play what they like and just stop with the Cod, BF, Killzone, and Dust are all better than one another comparisons and telling folks to leave their game and go play cod, etc. i would be willing to play multiple games if i could remap my controller. for me playing more than one competitive online game gets confusing because the controls are always so different and it causes me to fumble on them when i'm playing/thinking about too many games at once
This is some of the reason I don't play the same type of game at the same time. When playing GTAV last night, I had to select the "Alternate" controller mapping to put the aim/shoot buttons on R1/L1, same as on Dust and Borderlands, so I don't mess myself up when switching between games.
But yeah, the full effects of GTA V won't be felt until the Online part comes on, too early to tell. If the effect is felt at all, that is -- I plan on playing both at the same time. I'll be more worried when the dedicated FPS games start to drop. |
