So, last week we fought BurgezzETF with standard-gear only. It was, very likely, the most fun I've had in DUST since Uprising 1.0, and most certainly since 1.4. Here's why:
1. There's no complaining about skill points when you're in standard-only. Everyone's big enough to play, and it's skill, not gear, that determines success.
2. While still facing a serious match, you can kick back a little and just focus on going all out, knowing your pocketbook is safe. Standard-only matches are very profitable for players, even if you only win one every several losses.
3. Uprising 1.4 brought us an incredibly short time-to-kill. It feels off, it removes a lot of the gunplay from the game, and makes it more of a twitch shooter. Working with standard only gear, you bring that down to a manageable level. It feels more balanced, gunplay matters.
A note on the rules we used: Dropsuits, weapons, grenades, and explosives should all be standard. Basically, anything you can outwardly tell that someone's using, should be standard or militia. But we allowed any modules you could fit on your standard suit. Because there's no way to tell if someone's "cheating" with their modules, so you might as well let everyone go all out with those. And they're cheap anyhow.
I'd love to face BurgezzETF again in this manner, and I'd be thrilled to face anyone else under standard-only rules as well. |

What's your stance on equipment? For example we played WarRavens at the weekend in a Basic/Militia match and they had repair nanohives dotted around the field. |

Um... I don't know, I'd be tempted to say let them use what they can fit in non-explosive equipment slots, because it may be hard to tell if they're using a proto nanohive that doesn't repair. The basic idea of the rule, is if it's something that you can tell they're using Adv/Proto, they probably shouldn't be using it. But it's not worth trying to tell people basic-only modules, when you have no way to enforce that or see if they're cheating. |

We fight as an alliance. Your tournament's rules are that you cannot field a team with more than one corp tag.
I wish your tournament best of luck though! |

The meta 1 battle we had against Hellstorm was one of the most fun PC battles I've played, even though I set my personal record for deaths with 17. I just said screw it and had fun and didn't worry about losses. Was also the largest payout for a PC battle I've ever gotten which was funny since it was all meta 1. |
